I always wore my ring on the right hand. When he died I wore his ring on my left. Its been two years and I have taken his ring off and put it in the medicine pouch that I wear around my neck every so often.

No dreams or anything that moving on is OK, I just at some moment let myself be okay.

My honest wish for every emotionally struggling widow is to allow the pain to melt away without feeling guilty. True love doesn't invoke guilt.

It was about 2 months for me... I was wearing a pendant with a portion of her ashes for about a year.
I had to let go of her to move on... We had a beautiful relationship and loved each other deeply.
I have no guilt about this... I'm thinking that is why it is easy for me.
I'm going to say that there is no wrong answer to your question... just be true to yourself and be as happy as they would of wanted for you... as you would have wanted for them.

we both took our rings off within the first five years of our marriage, we felt we didn't need the symbolic sign of marriage, we knew we were married to each other, it's really your own choice and how only you feel about the taking off the ring.

Don't let anyone tell you that there is a certain time to take it off, I don't see anything wrong with wearing it until you yourself pass, rather or not there will be another love or not. just my opinion of course.

My first post here...my husband past a little over a year ago...I have my rings still on where they go and I have his on my hand too...but I wear lots of rings and always have...right now I have 14 rings on...each of my rings have a story in my mind....I still twist his ring when missing him...not sure if I will ever take them off....I guess I would prolly have to be getting married again to do it and not sure that I will ever do that at this point....I feel that it is up to each person.

My story is kind of crazy. I had been struggling with the decision to take it off or leave it on. On the one year anniversary of her death, I went up to the mountains in Wyoming to spread her ashes near the radio tower that the family owned (they ran a radio station) where her mother's and aunt's ashes had been spread years before. While up there, I fell off a rock and jammed my left hand ring finger, and it started swelling fast so I had to take the ring off and put it on my right hand. It took 2-3 months before the swelling went away, but obviously the ring stayed on my right hand...

I dont think anyone's wrong for not taking off the ring. Been 1 year today I lost my wife, after almost 25 years. Ring still on. Also been there long enough not to want to. Maybe someday, but not soon

I still wear mine. My husband died very unexpectedly last June. I also wear his wedding ring on a chain around my neck and his pinkie ring on my right hand. I gave his other rings to our son. I have decided to wear my rings at least a year and then I am not sure what to do. Guess I will have to wait to see how I feel. We were together 42 years. It is hard to think about taking it off.

My husband has been gone two yrs this past Feb. We were married 35 yrs. We were as close as two people can be and we did everything together. I took our wedding band off, the day I made the funeral arrangements. I gave it to my husband so he would have part of me with him. I miss him terribly everyday. But life goes on, and we all have to learn to deal with it in our on way and time. With Gods help we can do it.

I took mine off at the funeral and buried it with her....
I went on a mission to find those responsible..
so I figured if I did not survive and was killed also she would give me ring back when we saw each other again..

she was killed by drug dealers in NYC..wrong place at the wrong time...
I got mine though..
went after them all.....and I got them all...

paid my dues...almost 10 yrs in prison...
and would do it again..don't f**k with me and mine.....

After about 2 months I moved it over to my right ring finger. It is there for several reasons. My husband is gone, but not forgotten. I am widowed, but still have hopes of meeting someone else down the line. If the time comes that I do meet another special man and it is headed for something more serious that just dating, then and only then will it be placed in a keepsake box in my jewelry box so I can take it out and look at it when I need to. I believe it is a personal choice, no one else can dictate when it is right to remove it.

I wore my wedding ring only on the day of our marriage. I don't believe in wearing jewelry. I don't object to others who wear it however I reserve the right to not wear any..

I do have an objection to the women who practice serial monogamy and have a sizable ring collection that they wear to display their skill at getting men to marry them.. The record I think was held by my mother who could wear a wedding ring on nearly every finger when she wanted to display her skills..

It took me 31/2 years and the only reason I have taken it off now is because there is a crack in the band and I didn't want to loose the 1.3K diamond in the center. My husband and I were not married when he gave me the ring. He gave it to me on the day I discovered I was pregnant with our son, I was 44 years old and had given up on having another child. I finally agreed to marry him one month later after being together for over seven years.

The ring was a token of his love and I plan to have it repaired and start wearing it again.
If I meet someone else and marry again or the ring bothers them, I have two hands. Moving on and letting go does not have to include forgetting or abandoning anything you have loved well in your life!

Don't do anything if it doesn't feel right. It's about you. And it isn't anyone elses business whether you wear your ring on your finger or have your nose pierced and wear it there (more people might notice though!)

I smashed my finger about a year and half after she died and had to take it off because it was swelling up fast. I may not have ever done it otherwise. If I could meet someone that would understand I would start wearing it again. It was my promise to her. I value it.

I'm not joking but one of the dogs took the wedding ring off the coffee table, 1 year after marriage. Never seen it again! I was upset, but there's nothing I can do about it! So he decided to take his off too, that didn't bother me at all. He passed away in 2009, 15 years of marriage!

It's a personal choice. I wore mine for several months after he passed, then put them in the box. When I feel that I'm sad, I take them out and put them on. Makes my heart feel better, then I will put them back. It's been 13 months since he passed so its all for comfort. Good luck

My husband died 2 years ago in August. He suffered from terminal brain cancer. We were using hospice. On the morning that he died(1am) I took his ring off and mine off and put them on a chain around my neck. I have since started wearing his band on my left thumb and had the stone from my engagement ring placed in a pendant. I've found for me that I know in my heart when I'm ready to take another step forward. I just spread his cremains two weeks ago. It just has to feel right with me. I'm beginning to feel like its my house now instead of ours. He would not have wanted me to be so sad for this long. Slowly I'm emerging.

I don't feel there is a "Right or Wrong" answer, everyone must Choose their time. I wore mine for over a year after my wife died. I started dating and felt it was time to put the "Ring" away. I was married almost 42 years when she died, I am still single over 4 years later, I don't mind being alone and am not Sure if I can Find someone to "PUT UP" with me LOL

That is a purely speculative question, OP. Just because one is a widow or widower doesn't mean that they have taken their wedding ring(s) off.

Like many have posted, I think it's a personal decision and each of us has our reasons on what feels good to us. I personally went back and forth and finally took my ring off a couple of weeks ago. My husband passed away in August, 2013. The two now are on the mantle.

My husband passed away a year ago this last April. I recently removed the Engagement ring (our wedding bands disappeared a few months after his death), I felt it was the appropriate thing to do, as I am now here seeking a relationship with someone new. I agree it has to be when you are ready though. But, if you go to meet someone new and you are still wearing your ring, won't this at the very least make him wonder if you truly are ready to move on? I know I would feel this way if a man was still wearing his wedding ring. Just some food for thought...
