I don't mind being supportive or giving a pick me up to something, but if it is a constant compulsion then it can suck the life out of you. Have a friend who has really really low self esteem and knows it, boosting their confidence constantly is exhausting sometimes.

Don't blame self-esteem. That's a symptom, not a cause. But being needy of approval and assurance sure does get old. Especially if we don't really think that highly of you, for whatever reason. And that's where self-honesty and -improvement come in.
The big lie foisted on the young is, all you need is to feel good about yourself and then All Good Things will appear on silver tray. Well, forget it. Wishing doesn't get you jack, and neither does believing in the Self Esteem Bunny. You want it, work for it.

I run. Such a turn-off. Everyone likes to hear compliments now and then, but to have to give them constantly, like previously stated, is exhausting. Low-self esteem in a relationship = clingy, jealous, emotional roller-coaster. No thanks.

instead of relying on other's to most likely leave you feeling worse about yourself, get busy, do something you're good at and that brings you satisfaction and feeling good about yourself. Find something anything, if it's a deeper thing from childhood get help.
That's the thing about SELF confidence and SELF esteem it's NOT called "OTHERS" esteem, it comes from within, like so many other worthwhile "feelings" like happiness, etc. To get one seems you've got to collect the "set"!! Good luck kiddo!~~mama Ginny hugs~~

Rexmal! don't go worrying the girl!! She's a little young for a schizophrenia disorder they normally don't pop up on the "norm" until 25 yo. Male onset is generally the one we see before the age of 25..... if there was any form of abuse experienced as a child get psychological help for that...or you'll be 40 asking what's wrong with everyone else and your life will absolutely suck!
Depression is just like any other medical disorder, your body isn't making something or processing a chemical correctly and might need some help, just like you take medication for high blood pressure, no more stigma to it than that!! "get help" does NOT have to be a "bad" thing!!
If you don't like your life change it!!! that's the marvelous thing about the human condition, is that we can affect how we live and experience life.

This is true, and is the reason I started doing it. Not exactly altruistic, but you're right--it really does help when we are feeling down. But once you do it regularly and grow to care about the people you're helping, your reasons change.

yeah I help out with the Houston Food Bank and Children's health issues, and when I get my fat a** in there and help out those who don't have food to eat or not sure where a roof over their heads is going to be there tonite, you get "REAL" about your silly issues and real fast!! I've done that for as long as I can remember, it's more an obligation for me and it really seems (not so altruistic too) but I get way more than I give that's for sure! !Not in something tangible but in the best possible way ever!! I'm hardwired that way, it's why I love what I do for a living, cooking, etc, bringing folks joy rocks my world!!

When I was living in Vegas and helping at the women and children's shelter there, one of the ladies was telling me her story. She mentioned that people always think to volunteer or to donate during the holidays, but the rest of the year people forget about them. That always stuck with me.

Idk why you do OP. You're a cute girl, seem like you have things going for you, you live in a great American City (Boston is my fave to visit - Lots to do, and pletny of young kids your age).
Start thinking positive, do things that you like and that make you happy, work on it each day. It may seem as though you're faking it at first, but it confidence will naturally come to you. Just keep your head up and be happy that you have such a beautiful life to live.
