a short footnote for Dakla.

I was in a rare storm yesterday. Flooded the entire desert. Extremely rare. I was out in the open and the tallest thing for at least one kilometers, maybe two kilometers. I had to run like hell because of lightning. It dumped a foot of water or more on the town i was near. The entire city had a foot of water covering everything in the matter of an hour. I thought i was toast. I made it to the road i think just in time. I didn't think i could do it, but i guess i'm in better shape than i thought i was. I saw one head-on collision, one car encased in clay, about fifty cars stalled or off the road, and the crazy guy that picked me up was laughing at all of it. We were behind a truck called get this; Titanic. I can't make this shit up. Never sprinted that long before, especially in sand in the middle of the desert on tidal flats. (Picture the utah salt flats) bizzarely gorgeous it was.

I felt bad for so many people, and dealing with Katrina to a point, i had a bit to relate to. There were so many people walking about. Losing a car here is devastating. It takes years to work for one. The water, sand, and dark clouds made an incredible contrast. I was going to take some pics of a finger sandbar, but the tide was too low. Another rarity, as lowtide like this happens maybe once a year, to the point where you can walk out to this island out in the middle of the bay. Surreal, all the way around.

Not sure either. The head-on was pretty bad, but people were walking around. I think if anyone did perish, it would be with lightning on the flats, as there were huts in a different part of the flats way ahead of me, or someone getting washed off one of the 30 ft cliffs into the ocean.
