Let's not say goodbye to twinkies, ding dongs, and christmas bells
by josephfromabove at 11/15/2012 7:06:51 PM

Well on the news was some solemn news. Hostess bakeries will close down if the union, and the company can not aggree the employees must take a pay cut because the company is in bankruptcy proceedings. The company said it will close it's doors. No more twinkies, ho-hos, or wonder bread. In Conneticutt the last bell maker in the USA is trying to hang on after a fire in May of 2011. They are currently making 15,000 bells for the Salvation Army's Christmas drive, so you know your donation does help someone. Belltown Conneticutt, also goes by another name, but it was named so because it was the bell makers of the USA with 30 bell factories, and now Bevin Brothers are the last. They are trying to be a phoenix company, and could use our support in buying american bells only, They made the first bicycle bell in 1937, and the Good Humor man's bells on his trucks. They make sleigh bells, and hand bells, and bells for the christmas trees also.

I would ride my bicycle 2 miles or so to the little gas station soda fountain on montauk highway in Seaford LI NY. I was about 8 or 9...No worry for my parents, children were safe in those days...I remember climbing up on the stool and ordering a lime rickey and a twinkie that I picked from the display box on the counter.. on the way out I bought a comic book and a crunch bar for the ride home..and immediatley began thinking of what I could buy with NEXT weeks allowance. beautiful days...my childhood.

The new leader of china lived in a hand carved cave in a mountain when he was a child, and farmed by hand plow. They know what work is, and it will take that kind of determination Sireena, and Irish to get the jobs, back. But why wait till everyone is on the soup lines before we act?

Yep it was a schwynn blue frame with chrome fenders and a crome basket...and a nice bell and streamers on the handles 24 inch....My mother and father were divoced and my father bought me the bike for Christmas and she was mad thought I would kill myself on it or never learn to ride itproperly...I was so dazzled I learned to ride in maybe tem minutes or so with no trainers...I can still remember that feeling of exilaration when my father let go of the back of the seat and I took off under my own power..It was like at 8 years old I had conquered th e world...

Yes IKavour it was a rush of a lifetime, and it never went away. I had a schwinn at first, and then got a Huffy english 3 speed with match book covers for engine sound, and of course a bell, and a squeeze bulb horn. I even remember my Radio Flyer trike. I would get going and take my feet off the pedals down hill to fly. Crashed a few times but always got back on.

11/15/2012 7:31:23 PM

Oh I forgot about clothespinning playing cards to the spokes to get that sound....We though we were SOoo cool, even though that wasnt the word we used..."Neat" neat was the work we used...stuff was neat!

josephfromabove
11/15/2012 7:34:37 PM

Couldn't use the playing cards, we played 500 rummy, and go fish, so we needed those. Old cardboard or a matchbook cover, or a tore up kitchen match box was my engine.

Madame you don't have to move to Texas to secede, NC is has a petition also. Then you can go to the Hostess Bakery, and keep it going by eating your fill of ding dongs, and hos-hos, and twinkies.

sireena
11/15/2012 7:46:02 PM

The ding dongs were the best! Never was crazy about twinkies or ho ho's.

josephfromabove
11/15/2012 7:48:49 PM

madmadame

josephfromabove

They didn't used to be that way, but to ship all over the USA, and keep the product fresh and sellable, they put presrvatives in them.

sireena
11/15/2012 7:52:17 PM

So basically, I could squirt some whipped cream on a sponge...and it would be about the same?

josephfromabove
11/15/2012 7:52:40 PM

Twinkies used to be a yellow sponge cake, then they turned it into yellow sponge, you could wash with it.

joseph never really eat that stuff but its so sad to lose jobs no matter what it is.....we are definately in sad shape in this country.

josephfromabove
11/16/2012 7:35:56 AM

Kona, what did you eat when you were a child? I only got candy for a job done like raking, or an errand run. Most of the time for snacks, I got carrots, or celery with peanut butter, or a PBJ sandwich. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance, and the people have sat on their behinds, and allowed a TV rule their lives, and not read the news and stay up with events, and that is what the politicians rely on now. Ignorance of the public about what they are doing. They have been selling this country piece by piece since Reagan signed away this country's sovereignity in the 1980's. It has been a slow process to which made them all very wealthy, and controlling of any stocks, and bonds, at the citizen's expense.

When I lived in Greece, it was a Socialist Country, an in our little village, (Malona) people went about their business without too much attention to what went on in Athens,,The village men would gather in the "cafe Neo" (outdoor coffee shop) and discuss and argue politics but the women just kept on keeping on...I remember one incidant where there was a perceived threat of a Turkish invasion and allthe men agthered on the beach for days with their ww2 guns and uniforms to fight off the Turks...(they never showed up) but it was touching that all those men young and very old were willing to sacrifice them selves for the protection of our little villages...I wonder how they are doing today...with all the chaos over there.

It would seem the politicians of every country has a hidden agenda to enrichen themselves regardless of how their constituents suffer. Our goverment started out for the people, and by the people, but steps were taken to slowly erode that control of the public, to go to the politicians who have of course enrichened themselves at everyone's expense. They just sit back, and collect there checks from the government which the people pay for, and buy all the controlling stocks and bonds. So they have used this trickle down economics to enrichen the companies they have stock in by shipping them overseas to cheaper labor. But wait, then the chinese steal the designs and slightly modify them so they can market them.It would be easier to defend against a invader rather than the evil from within, who is well disguised as a public "servant".

josephfromabove
11/16/2012 10:07:18 AM

There used to be tariffs and taxes blocking companies from shipping labor overseas, but that was eroded beginning in guess when? The 1980's and trickle down economics.

In the long view it is my belief that Empires, and Nations rise up , reach their apex and then begin to topple...There is something in the human soul that cannot maintain a prosperous and peacful life. Those who achieve the heights in the "Halls of power" are expecially tempted to graft, corruption and when that graft and corruption becomes too much for the Nation to bear and absorb it begins its decline. In the USSR we saw that happen alomst over nite, in the European nations it is a slow and painful process, we have begun here, will we topple quickly or die a lingering and painful death..? We shall see...but you may be sure that those who will profit from the fall will alter the history of this Nation to deflect any and all responsibilty form their mansion doors....

The country is not dead till you take the country out of the people that populate it. Once they have lost faith, then it is rollover and play dead, or rebel. The ones that think they can make change by becoming part of the system get assimilated into it, and the Monster rolls on. Read the words of Monster by Steppenwolf, and see if they do not ring true?

The sadness that I feel at the loss of this election by someone who I believed would change the path that his country is taking is overwhelming...I nolonger have the "fighting spirit" that I had, I feel that history has rolled over us...and now is moving on to it's chaotic and bloody end...Israel is at war and there is a gnawing feeling that we will NOT defend her...to our own destruction...GOD did mention that those who would stand with his people would be blessed and those who attack his people would be cursed...We are inthe control of evil men who in this generation can see power over the world within their grasp...and the people are blinded with is even more supernatural...Makes you want to go hide in a cave til its all over...

Ikavour it does say that those who are a friend of Israel is a friend of God. Hiding in a cave is not the solution but may be a remedy if things go really badly. So you better get your reservations soon, before they are all occupied. Many of the states seek to secede, and I believe the movement will grow more also, because many believe all is lost, and it is time for their states who all have balanced budget, or surplus to get out now. NC used to be balanced till the last couple of Republican Govenors, and the predominately Republican NC Senate took over. No I am not taking sides just speaking as it is. Now there is a 2 billion dollar deficit, which used to be one the size of a small country. Terry I had jobs with factories in the north during the 70's and 80's and would see the Japanese, and chinese come through on tour, and I would be irratated by the thought of their immitations, and immulations as a result. But that is another form of a business take over, besides stealing communications from them. They take the idea, and change it a bit, and it circumvents any patents, and civil suits. We taught them that from the 50's and 60's. So I guess what comes around goes around.tit for tat and all that rot. I have Penn Reels for salt casting. All the consumers wanted to pay a cheaper price, and they got what they asked for. The old saying is correct, you get what you pay for, or be careful what you wish for, you might get it. Most of the time it is not in the context you want.

joseph, yes, it even happen with 35mm cameras. when pentex cameras were made in Japan they had better quality .Then the cheaper K 1000s were made in malayla and had cheap stamping , no brass screws. ect. Notice a lot of flat screen tv made by God knows who anymore ? names constanly changing . probably all made by slave labor in china ? oh, well, good nite..

josephfromabove
11/18/2012 9:47:39 PM

The slave labor are political prisoners, just like they use prison labor in the USA for 25 cents to a dollar a day pay. Where do you think they got the idea from.
