LORD, MAKE ME AN INSTRUMENT OF THY PEACE
by mokaybee at 7/18/2009 11:54:50 PM
I work midnights watching over a group of juvenile delinquent girls and I was trying to write (kind of a prayer) without all the cynicism of what my job does to me, what the world does to me and what I do to me.
I wrote this:
There is nothing more rewarding than seeing dawn break on a new day after you made it through another dark patch. While the light is dawning on my end of the world, I have to remember there are others lying their heads down with the receding sun. And I must remember that while they are sleeping. I am on watch. I am carrying peace, love, kindness, faithfulness, truth, the light.
I must try to remember that while I am sleeping, others are toiling, laboring away at whatever menial thing or grand design. And my prayer should be that whatever their labor, may it be for that which we all hold sacred: life, love, peace, truth, light.
As my hands are clasped in my evening prayer, may their hands be steadily building, joined in a labor of love and the pursuit of not only their own happiness, but also the pursuit of happiness, safety and security for all mankind-on their watch.
AMEN
May we not become so cynical, so afraid, so full of hate that we forget to pray for those who are awake while we are sleeping.
I TRUST IN THE LORD TO WATCH OVER ME AND HIS WORD TELLS ME TO PRAY FOR THOSE WHO SPITEFULLY USE ME. IT OCCURRED TO ME ON THIS NIGHT THAT THIS IS WHY. WE CAN'T STAY AWAKE ALL THE TIME.
TRUST IN HIM, PRAY FOR THEM. Peace, Kelly
