How Do You Live Your Dash

I found this inspirational Story and wanted to share it with all of you.

HOW DO YOU LIVE YOUR DASH?

Author Unknown

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning…to the end.
He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the final date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth…
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own
The cars…the house…the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard…
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.
If we could slow down long enough
To consider what’s true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel,
And be less quick to anger,
And show instead appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we’ve never loved before,
If we treat each other with respect
And more often wear a smile
Remembering that this special dash
Might not last but a little while.
So when your eulogy’s being read
With your life’s actions to rehash…
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

If I can make someone smile every day, it always makes me smile. Even when I feel like shedding tears, I feel better if I can smile. Best of life might be when I share tears and a smile with a friend over a cup of coffee.

The first time I read this I sat back and really thought about my life. Could I have lived it better?? I am sure that I could have, but I am proud of the people who's lives I have touched in a positive way, esp. in my counseling. And I have managed to mend some of the mistakes that I have made, and have forgiven myself for those that are impossible to correct. Thank you for a great thought provoking blog.....

It has taken many years down the path of my physiological journey, much time, many changes, three children of unconditional love, and God. So when my eulogy is being read with my life's acclamations I will be proud of the things they say about how I spent my dash.
