Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue

Photobucket

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters.... S.. T. R.

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening

Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital -
(at 6:00 pm Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ... Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die.. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this.....

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally.. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)

(i.e. It is sunny out today.)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher...

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue... If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

Angel, I so agree. My neighbour had a stroke in Oct of 09, she is now in a nursing home being feed by a feeding tube and laying in a fetal position. I visited her the day before and we were laughing and carrying on a conversation, she was arguing and playing with her husband, nothing was wrong with her.

My sister had a stroke about ten years ago at the age of 46. Not a drinker, smoker--just suffered from a lot of migraines. It was a brain stem stroke, and I had her to the hospital within 2 hours of her first symptom....no good doctors there, she still hasn't regained her right side although she is partially mobile and has come a long way. I just thank God I still have my sister.

I survived 2 major and numerous mini-strokes. I was taken to the hospital within 30 minutes of beginning slurred speech. We were told I was just on a cheap drunk due to my pain meds.Knowing better than that I was taken to a different hospital and immediately given an MRI which showed it was a stroke. I am sayiong this to point out if you have a gut feeling your diasgnoses is not right get a second opinion FAST.The only problem I now have from them are a weaker left side which causes unsteadiness if standing for long and occassional forgetfullness.

this is something everyone needs to know, i lost my sight for just a few seconds, but seemed like alot longer, then i couldn't walk one day at the flea market, it hurt my head so bad trying to move my legs, i was just frozen in one spot, all my kids kept saying ,come on, come on, i said i can't move my feet, i can't walk, and i can't see, all i seen was alittle light, felt like i had been hit in the head really hard, i had hit my head about 7 months prior to this happening, and it made me sit back down and take a breathe, the doctors said i suffered a stroke, along with the trama of hitting my head,i did alot of praying after 2 weeks of feeling sorry for myself, and told God if he would let me walk again, i'd hit the streets the next day and get my work going again, and sure enough, after being on lyrica for a few weeks, i slowly started walking again, but i had to pick up my right leg to get it over the curb as i was passing my cards out on main street, i can now walk just fine, but it did make me have some memory problems, i use to play piano, but now i can only get the notes from my brain to my right hand to play what i know how to play, but when i see the notes for my left hand, i know some of the notes, but can't get my left hand and my brain to let me play them, sounds crazy i know, but it happened, stroke's and heart attacks, i've had many, some slight, some mini, but all in all i'm very lucky, at least i can still type and read and i get around just fine, i do still get headaches though, thanks for this blog, it's so tragic when this happens and some have not came out of it as well as i have, but i think it was god's way of slowing me down, now i have time to stop and smell the roses, never did that til i almost died, funny how something so serious can make you enjoy the simple things in life, bless all who have gone thru this and all who have dealth with a loved one going thru it as well.
