The Death of a Child
by torisdad at 8/6/2010 8:48:03 PM

Not to long ago, I posted a thread about my daughter's friend Haley. She was killed in a senseless accident. Today, I went to the funeral home to say good bye to another young lady. One of my oldest friends, Dawn, lost her daughter in an accident. Her daughter and her boyfriend were crossing a road here and a truck hit her. She was only 14. My daughter is 14 so this really has hit me pretty hard. Why do these things have to happen to children? Why can't kids be invincible? Why couldn't it be me instead? I would take either of these young ladies places. I just don't understand. I am so angry right now but I am also terrified that it could be my daughter. How do you help the other young people understand something like this when I don't understand it myself. My heart is broken tonight for Shelby Rhodes.

Hi, Shelby, What a terrible thing to happen! My heart goes out to the family of the young lady & to you as well...When my children were growing up, I was petrified I'd lose them at an early age, but God had his hand upon their lives...My adult daughter has had cancer, diagnosed at 22,& has been cancer free for nearly 10 years now. I don't know why we have to go through such sad things, I don't have the answers you seek, but God does & He can see see of our futures...I rely on Him..I don't know if you believe or not, but I will absolutely keep you in my prayers. Be blessed, Kathy

Earlier today a man using a walker was hit by a car nearby. Everyone young and old, walking or driving, need to be aware of their surroundings. So sorry about your friends daughter.

You know the verse in the Bible that say it rains on the just and the unjust. Accidents happen to the good and bad. God knows we are just human and we get angry at circumstances we don't understand. Right now I ask in the name of our Lord to bring you and her peace, His peace and know that time will heal. My heart aches when I think of losing a child. Bless him Father and the family that is going through such deep suffering. In the name of Jesus I pray Amen

I lost my youngest son in 1997. I was angry for years along with being heart broken. I have now found peace and yes even God again. It is very difficult to understand and even harder to acknowledge to our self that they are gone. Parents should not loose a child. It should be the other way around. There are no words. Time and a lot of time passed, before I could some what accept what I could not change. My life is not the same and never will be again. Friends usually can only be there as they have no words. Loosing a parent, sibling or spouse as I have done all of these, is nothing to compare to the child. Yes I have another son, but I was not ready to give up my younger one. My heart goes out to you and yours. What I have learned and you will also. There are no answers to WHY?

Like flirty my son was killed. He was 16..There are no answers to why...In fact I guess I would say why not... there are tragedy's like this on a daily basis.. I think perhaps one only questions when it affect them.....I learned very early after my sons death not to dwell on that,as I had no answers nor was I going to get them.....so I learned to celebrate his life;;;;;;; he was not just a wonderful son..but he was also a True Christian...even at such a young age he had more Faith than I....so I know he has been accepted into the Kingdom.....I wish I had some wonerful words of widom to impart to you but I have none....I can only say....tell those you care about that you love them every time they walk out the door and every time they re-enter....there are no guarantees in this life so make the most of it while you are able....PEACE AND BLESSINGS to you.

Tim, there are no answers -- only questions. Just make sure your daughter is always secure in the knowledge that you love her, through your actions and your words.

Thank you all for your kind responses. I am sorry to hear that other parents have gone through such an ordeal. Dawn is also dealing with her mother who is dying of cancer. My heart goes out to all the parents who have lost their children.

There is a story found in mythology about dragonflies...Dragonflies are charged with the duty to carry the souls of the departed until they are allowed to return to Earth again. Some must wait 1,000 yrs to return. Others needed for guidance and leadership are allowed to return every 200 to 300 yrs. I would be the curious one, always googling the internet. My mother was dying of cancer, 9-11 had occurred. I found an article that reported an unusual count of dragonflies in Manhattan after 9-11. I remembered dragonflies from the ponds as a child but knew nothing of them. After finding the mythology story, I told my mother, she smiled for about 10 minutes, never said where her mind had gone. Maybe she thought of reincarnation, don't know. No one really knows the other side, what might be after death. I choose to believe, there is peace after death. Hope that gives you a measure of peace.
