Port-O-Toliet Attacked Me!!!
by daretobeyou at 4/2/2011 1:03:08 PM
A Memo straight from Daretobeyou life file of "This is soo typical!"
One blustery day back in December 2009, I felt as if my car was ready to sprout wings and take flight! As I was traveling westbound on I-465 passing the median construction, I was trying to navigate through the gust of winds when low and behold what do I see blowing through to my lane? A port-o-toliet. Oh great, I thought. I've survived and overcame so much in my life and it's going to be the Port-O-Toilet that takes me outta here! I could just see the headlines now, "Road Rage Incident, Port-O-Toilet causes mayhem on 465 and leaves driver, Daretobeyou, in a mangled heap." But thankfully, G-d looks out for us, even during those near misses. Yet, that potential accident I averted caused me to reflect on how it's often the little, unforeseen events in our lives that can distract us from our purpose.
Sometimes we ruminate much too long over little annoyances and even flap our jaws about things that do not matter anymore. Perhaps we view doing such things as part of our "winding down"process, but in essence what we are doing is sidetracking our purpose. In college, my microeconomics professor called it opportunity cost. Everything we do will cost us something. If we don't pay with our money then we pay with our time and opportunities. We pay by the sacrifices we choose to make as we attain one thing while knowing there's always something that's given up in order to move us ahead. So you can believe it or not but all those "little things" can and will add up over the course of one's life. But today and for the rest of your time here on the third rock, you get to choose how you will spend each and every day and what you will choose to talk about. So vent if you must, but do not allow a little irritation to consume your entire day nor indulge in toxic chatter of others. Finally, even the Bible gives caution:
"The words of a fool start fights; do him a favor and gag him. Fools are undone. Listening to gossip is like eating cheap candy; do you really want junk like that in your belly?"-Proverbs 18:5-8 (The Message)
Regret little, laugh often, and live for today!-Daretobeyou
