In defense of the Hippies
by josephfromabove at 4/12/2012 7:16:48 AM

Ok all this hippy bashing has got to stop, technically I am not a hippy, I do not use drugs to improve, or expand my mind. In the past they have warned people about:
1. Global warming due to fossil fuel use.
2. Food loss due to over development
3. Social break down because of bad politics, i.e. massive job losses, Reagan giving away our sovereignty, paid off politics who have sold this country to any and all bidders.
4. The need for this country to create wars just to keep the economy afloat
5. The world powers turning the USA into the world police force.
Now hasn't all these things come true, and did they not warn everybody, or was anybody listening at all beisdes the heavens above?

Joseph, I probably did not go far enough in my explaination why I became disenchanted with strangers living on my place and having to experience the 70's lifestyle up close and personal. Number one, at the time I had two kids pre teens, I had made the move from LI because of some drug deaths among my KIDS" friends! When people who were living on my land (and not contributing much in the way of labor or upkeep) began using I decided that as much as I loved the country life I did not like the threat of harm tomy kids so I threw everyone staying there out....and brought some kids from LI ffor the summer to keep my kids company and help them overcome their homesickness for LI....

Explanation noted., But isn't it true about what the true intelectual hippies were saying would happen, has?

At the time before I left LI I was an anti war proponent, and marcher. I cannot remember nowmuch of what I thought then but the "draft" was an issue and "Domino Theory" was an issue with the marchers. The draft that ripped brilliant young men and shoved them into foreign wars that we did not believe were "legal wars" was a huge issue...Now so many years later, I find that leftist thought was NOT the answer to any of the problems of that time or this time either. As with the "Right" there are nefarious agents of iniquity, the ones on the left (and there are many) are even worse....for they subscribe to the destruction (and they are working fervently toward that end) of this Country. I lived in Greece, under socialism, and I can assure you you do not want that to come to pass here.

Granted all of the rants, and raves by the more radical types were bordering on lunacy, and communism is not an answer for anything but self destruction. But by the same turn capitalism has been used, and fine tuned against it's own citizens, by foreign investors seeking to be greedy, since Reagan signed over our soverieignty min the 80's and that is all, not for the common betterment of anyone but themselves, and that in turn fosters the use of fossil fuels in formerly third world countries trying to make a place under the sun for themselves by buying american land, and companies, and start their own, i.e. the ship salvager in India that beaches whole ships, and scraps them in the surf, with it's workers are barefooted, and unprotected, and any, and all pollution going directly into the seas. The increase of car use in China, and India, and many other countries as a result of the economic boom made off our country's being sold by our politics. We were warned, but the radicals amongst them were to distribute their misinformation about hippies, and to color them as someone not to listen to, when it was the forces of darkness that seeked to silence their enviromental alarms, because they seek the end of the world in any manner they can.

Joseph, IMHO the end of the world is not coming soon, however the end of the American Zenith is washing over us at a troubling and ferocious rate...At this point in time it is too late to identify the enemy "Parties" as there is enough bad guys to go around ...on both sides...I am trying in my mind to determine how our lives will be affected if Obama wins again, and the nefarious element in his administration, Justice Department etc, Perhaps, life will not change too much for oldsters like myself but certainly it will change for my grandchildren. Nations seem to rise and fall like a cork bobbing up and down on the waves of a great cosmic ocean. It has been so since earliest times and continues...I am just grateful at this time to have lived in this Country when it was great...

Ezgoingru is on topic, and correct, but I have "The Do It Yourself" encyclopedia from popular mechanics from the 50's, and Lejay's manuals from the 30's, and 40's so it was always present about alternative sources for electricity, and "green" living. So the hippies were very vocal in getting this information out to the "people" John Q. Public, and giving people alternatives not the same old political rhetoric, in the 60's. I have the original "Whole Earth Catalog" also from the 60's there is an interesting story on the inside margins of the pages.

Hypocrisy abounds freely among CEOs. Sovereignity is the ability to remain as one entire unit, and not any outside interference through buying and selling of companies, or land. Reagan signed that away mid-term in his office, and as a result foreign interests own major portions of many companies, lobbyist, land, and corporate interests. Before they had to become citizens before owning any land, or companies here, now this country is being taking apart piece meal fashion, and it shows with the present economy which was the original intention anyway, trickle down economics I beleive he called it. He knew he would be gone before the fall of the USA, so he did it to make himself comfortable in his retirement, but opps, he forgot about dementia, and how it can be artificially induced by certain people. Reagan was just a front for George H.W. "read my lips" Bush, V. Pres., the former cheif of the CIA. He put on quite the show, and the country is in the hole for it, the military rally was just a smoke screen for his true intentions, and to make him a credible history figure. I did not forget anyone not even JFK, actually that would be another blog all together. Once again this is off subject, and the question was do you agree that the USA was warned by the hippies, a simple yes, or no will do.

ok, yes, they did , but sticking your head in a bong is not the answer either.this was the turn on , drop out society . instead of the tough it out one .

Not all hippies used drugs, in case you really don't know any personally. You are being too judgemental and putting a stereotype upon them. Some were just back to the land, and all natural without drugs. There were entire communes like that, and some still exist.
