Having come out of a marriage of over thirty years, the advice
my daughters have given me on dating, are well oh well thats a
different subject. Meaning, I have been out of the park for a
while,
How do you tell someone, who is a nice person, and seems interested,
that you no longer want to date, yes, I do not want to intentionally
hurt someones feeling, been there, know what its like, any advice
welcome.

That a really hard one, but I think the most important thing is to be honest with them. Be respectful. Don't lie. Tell them exactly how you feel, but in a nice way. AND DO NOT do it in a letter or over the phone. Often it will hurt. It's almost unavoidable, but, if you really are respectful and kind, they will often get over it and move on. That's all I can say.

Just keep reenforcing that you are only looking for friends. I mean each time you talk to them..."You are a good friend" "Thank you my friend".

i agree with sadhotelroom, you gotta come correct, theres no other way man, it might sting at first but in the long run, if they are a good person, they'll thank you for it at least in their own thoughts..
sad...u make those glasses work for you...as the punkrock crowd might say...NOICE!

When have I ever had a chance to turn someone away? The other way around is more the story of my life! LOL!
Be that as it may, I would keep in mind these lyrics from the song "You and I move to the beat of a different drum"
"I ain't sayin' you ain't pretty!
All I'm sayin's I'm not ready
For any person, place or thing
Tryin' to pull the reigns in on me...."
Compliment kindly the person to whom you are saying good-bye and take the fault upon yourself explaining that you're just not ready for the situation at hand. Part as friends. Stay friends if possible. Never burn your bridges behind you.

The nicest let downs I recieved were; Its not you its me you are a wonderful person but I just am not ready for a relationship.
If it makes you feel any better you are the first person Ive chosen to dated in years.
Its hard to let someone down that has been nothing but kind. Honesty is always the best policy because us women cant argue your feelings.

I think usually when you meet someone and it is not good you can tell right from the beginning and I also think that when you are in a relationship and it is not going good both people can feel the tension and usually that unconfortable feeling you get when you are not where you want to be. Being totally honest and saying how you feel is the way to go and doing it with your heart and thinking about what you are going to say before it is time to face that person. The only problem you might have is if you have met a "Fatal Attraction Type" Oh boy!! you are in trouble then and I don't know how to help you there........Sincerity

tell them You are becomming amish.
or that you want to marry them tomorrow.(that may backfire)
seriously, the best way is to tell them that You are not who they are looking for and they are not what You are looking for. Rejection hurts. it just does. no way around it.
but the best way is to just be tactful and truthful. this way you maintain honor.

Eroticartist says he welcomes it when a woman just walks right up and plants a kiss on him.
My question is: What is the age range of that woman? You look like Brad Pitt to me and I'm tempted, Kiddo! LOL!

Tell them " welcome to dumpsville-population YOU!"
Just kidding-lol
I would just tell them that I don't feel the same way they do and do it sooner than later. It just makes it worse it you let it linger. But to not respond at all after appearing to be interested is the worst thing for someone to handle. You leave them wondering and it hurts them badly.

Just be a buddy, a friend and who knows what may happen. I'm in my late 60's and I enjoy men for friends without any ties. Nothing like someone of the opposite sex to share a good laugh with.....discuss family etc.
Good luck to you......

Honesty is great to a point. If that is how you can be. But with some people you really have to be rude to make them go away. Not all people.

nonickname49 just tell her the truth; you have been married for 30 years and you haven't been single for a long time, you hive fun with her, you are enjoying your family and dating someone full time is to much for you. at this time you would like to see her but not so often, you just need to slow down some. tell her she is a beautiful woman witch she is and part of you thinks your crazy for doing this but you just have to fallow your hart. give her lots of hugs because we certainly don't want to hurt her.then ask her if she would like to go to the movies right now and enjoy your date.

A nice way to let someone know your not interested is just by being upfront. Honesty is the best policy. Thank them for showing an interest, but if you don't feel a connection or chemistry then I mean you need to speak up! Most people will take the hint, but if you do come across one that is just a little too needy then I'd say be bold an tell him with a stern voice what part of my answer did you not understand. The last resort just hit the TRASH button!

Okay, I know it's a tough gig. Too nice to blow her off and such, but you kinda dig the attention and want to keep her around, but you need to let her know that the two of you will never be mak'in out. Cheez out and buy one of those Hallmark 'just between us' cards from Walgreens and throw in some personal stuff about how the friend aspect is the only road you're gonna travel down. Good Luck
