Please write one of your own--if you forget how one is written, read this whole thread and make your own to share here --it's a great day to show yours on this thread...thanks for helping get us to this 2nd Edition. The First Edition was fun!!! Please post or just lurk , it is free here to do that —But be nice and respectful to all the folks here…

Haiku is a poetic form and a type of poetry from the Japanese culture.

Haiku combines form, content, and language in a meaningful, yet compact form. Haiku poets, hopefully you will soon be, write about everyday things. In the first edition many us would take a theme of the day and elaborate on it collectively and that was fun and at the same time many of us showed a compassionate side of us too. I for one learned from members that posted here and still do…Thank you for that!!!

Many themes include nature, feelings, or experiences. Usually they use simple words and grammar.

The most common form for Haiku is three short lines. The first line usually contains five (5) syllables, the second line seven (7) syllables, and the third line contains five (5) syllables.

Haiku doesn't rhyme. A Haiku must "paint" a mental image in the reader's mind. This is the challenge of Haiku - to put the poem's meaning and imagery in the reader's mind in ONLY 17 syllables over just three (3) lines of poetry!

Check out two Haiku examples below

*************************************************
The red blossom bends

and drips its dew to the ground.

Like a tear it falls

***********************************************
Curving up, then down.

Meeting blue sky and green earth

Melding sun and rain.

TAKE NOTE:

What is nice if you take the previous posters last line (line 3) and when you begin yours, use that last line of theirs and make it your first line…That way you only have to think of line two and line three. How simple, correct!!! Of course you may just post one of your own 3 line haiku’s…thanks and have fun…sorprano
