what douche bags.
Every day my firefox seems to try and update itself, then while checking around I see that they have a new version 3.0, so why with all those endless updates did it not just upgrade to the new version or at least tell me it was available?

Because the old version is more stable and secure. There has been a lot of updates to it, but there also has been a lot of eyes looking at the vulnerabilities.
Want to be Microsoft and make the world vulnerable to a small mistype? Take the safe road...
I totally agree with the endless updates, but MS OS's have the same thing going on...

I downloaded it the first day it was publicly available, not a hiccup yet.

Firefox should have alerted you to the newest release when 3.0 became publicly available, but version 3.0 was a completely new build and didn't seem to appear as a forced download.

That's right.
I have another computer running XP with Firefox 2.x and it doesn't even suggest upgrading to 3.0
If you got it, it was your choice.
Firefox2 still does everything 3 does anyway.

I downloaded Firefox and I like it. Only problem is that my computer always goes back to Internet Explorer whenever I log onto the internet. Do I need to uninstall Internet Explorer? When I installed Firefox, I clicked on the "Set as Home Page" option!

You'd need to set Firefox as your default browser/
Tools/Options/Advanced, check the box that says "Check to see if Firefox is set as the default browser" then click on the "check now" button, tell it yes if you want firefox as a default.
In XP about all uninstalling IE does is remove the icon from the desktop and start menu. Windows update and a few other programs won't work with anything but IE.

You can actually remove IE, but it isn't worthwhile. Set Firefox as the default browser as stated above and also setup IE so that it doesn't reset to the default browser by going to Tools -> Programs and deselecting "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the Default Browser". You can also set your properties through the Control Panel under Add or Remove Programs -> Set Program Access and Defaults. It's best to keep IE running though, as some sites (i.e. Banking sites, etc.) still only function in it.

however...
as for the sites written by folks trying to discourage the use of other than microsolth products...
one can get the IE tabs add on for Firefos or Flock and get to those sites...
some years back, before Opera went big, I used that, and one could set it to tell the sites that it was Internet Explorer... and it would work
Have not gone there in years, but used to be that the community colleges in Colorado had sites that only wanted you to use them with (get this straight... sites are not animate and do not want anything! It is the people that write the sites, the software they use, and their own proficiency at the jobs they get paid to do... not the sites!) with Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
...Bad way, prejudicial way to use tax dollars. Complain to the authorities and send a copy CC to the media.
...endless updates on a slow phoneline?
...Turn off automatic updates.
...Then have the presence of mind to turn the computer on periodically for the sole purpose of allowing the updates to happen and manually make it so.
