One book I would suggest reading is 48 Days to the Work You Love. Do you know what field you would like to go into?

well I do have past experience in Human Resources. I worked for several major corporations starting as a generalist and working up to middle manager Am considering doing the professional certification course in that area or have thought about going back to school for a degree in computers.

What do you do and are you happy doing it?

I work in procurement as a contract specialist. A lot of dealing with different vendors and paperwork, but it's a fun job. Is there a certain reason you want to get away from teaching?

There are a lot of changes happening including including children with severe disabiities in regular classrooms. As a special ed teacher, I feel there needs are not being met adequately and their needds and behaviors take away from the education of the regular ed students...a no win situation on both sides. Plus they have taken our classrooms and we have to run from room to room for 30 minutes to give some sort of service to these kids which I find insulting to my professional image and professional standards. it makes us feel like aids not teachers.
Everyone is unhappy...the teachers, the students and the parents. The only ones who are not happy are the administrators who are cutting budgets with everything possible except their salaries which are inflated. As a professional who has always taken pride in what she does, not matter what the career, I am unwilling to compromise my standards and do such a deservice to all my students.

Have you considered switching to another district? I've also heard that teachers who enjoy teaching but are tired of the same problems you've mentioned have gone into corporate teaching/training/motivational speaking. I'm in the financial services and insurance field. Typically teachers and those who served in the military do well in this field and the money can be more lucrative than teaching.

It's a shame that the school budgets are being cut so drastically. If we spent less cash on bombs & more on books, we could really teach our children something. Things could change. (But I don't think Americans are ready to take on that kind of responsibility & stop the war.)

I seem to switch careers every 10 years; maybe more like transition into the next phase of cyber land. Working with cutting edge technology & computers always keeps me learning & being productive. Plus the pay isn't bad either.

With internet, I am now able to work from my home office in the mountains!

Hi,

I have my BSN in Nursing. I am persuing my Nurse Anesthetist so in about another year I will hopefully be doing that. For now I am working on the Cath Lab ( Heart cath/stents).Once I obtain myCRNA I plan to transfer over to the NICU. So it is going to be a bit of a role change. I will still be in healthcare but have different duties and responsibilities. I have a little bit of anxiety about the changes so I can relate. I wish you all the best!
