Most Montanans are very friendly, just try to get over being so shy. The Library, the grocery store, Walmart, kmart, church. Anywhere really. Just try talking, I'm sure in no time you'll find someone who really enjoys you and the wonderful person you are. God bless.

Brother, you're 32. Time to stop being shy. And please don't ever refer to yourself as shy on a public forum. It doesn't help your chances.
To answer your question. Women are everywhere, stores, bars, online dating sites, church, etc., same as men are. (By the way, lots of cuties at Carrol in Helena, just start going to college football games and you'll find someone in no time. Also, Target is the jackpot!)
If you see someone you like, check for a ring, and if the coast is clear, say Hey. Follow that up by being your cool, funny, exceptional self and talk about whatever floats your boat. If she reciprocates, get her email or number and leave. Don't hang around and get shy again. Call her when you feel like it, not after 'x' number of days. Say, Hi. Shoot the shit. Set up a coffee date. Whatever. Be cool. Be yourself. If she doesn't reciprocate, then say to yourself, 'next', and move on to the one who will. Find the one for YOU. And you for HER.
It's not rocket science. Believe me, most women are more shy than you, AND they're expecting you to make the first move and LEAD. So, do so. Be the man you are and lead.
Oh, and, no offense to your Pop, but stop hitting the bars with your Dad too. Unless, of course, you're HIS wingman. Hahaha!!

ruzzt may have some good points. He’s wrong about hangin with your dad though---f**k women when it comes to pops, no woman is going to fill that spot---but he’s got a few good things to say---like making the first move, definitely; it’s what they’re waiting for (it’s the source of their power). The thing to watch out for, however, women are greedy little monsters. If shyness protects you from this, then you’re not so bad off. If they can get you to give them what they want, they will. It’s all about control in the end. They measure you first by what you have to offer---second by what they can get out of you. It’s not like we are any different. The question now becomes, if we were any less, would they be the more? (But I’m getting way off topic---hang with pops, its good stuff)

And if you say "hi" and nothing more - nothing more is what you'll get. At the check out - talk to both her and the clerk. To include the other person helps relax all. If you see something interesting in the grocery, but not personal - ask if she's fixing something special for dinner? If you can cook add something like " That would be good with sauted mushrooms", if you can't cook, tell her she really makes a home cooked meal sound good.
If a coffee shop is close - come right out and ask " Would you have time for just a cup Of coffee". It's public and she can still feel safe.
Most of all realize, the worst she can say is "no thank you". You'll live to try another day
