What do you do to make life easiier for both of you? I have two electric heating pads that I run all year for my cat, she loves them! Is your cat in good health? Would love to hear from all of us.

purrmomma Morongo Valley, CA age: 59	Hi, Alice Kathleen! As mentioned, in previous posts, I am "owned" by 5 wonderful Kitties, two of whom are 15, "Casper", the odd-eyed White Male, and "Patches", the Calico, and Chloe, the Ragdoll-Munchkin mix, who is 10. Patches is beginning to show her age; she is somewhat "arthritic" in her front shoulders; I use a Glucosamine-Chondroitin Foam rub, to help her with this problem. Casper has always had a "Cattitude"; he seems to be more "assertive, in his old-age. His "thing" is Imperial margarine, he pesters me constantly for this treat! All 3 of these Cats like Fancy Feast Gold Chicken-Turke dry food as a treat and they also get other snacky~treats, but their main dry food is Friskies "Signature Blend" and they get Friskies "Savory Shreds" for their canned food. Over the years, I have always used Friskies dry; at one time, I had to switch them to the "Special Diet"for Urinary tract problems, as another Cat I had, had this kind of problem. Occasionally, Patches will eat too much, too fast, and will throw up, but there is usually also a hairball along with it. The two younger Cats, "Moochy" ,the Himalayan, around age 8, and "Junior", the Gray-White shorthair seldom have any problems with the foods, except that Junior has an "insatiable" appetite,and will finish off anything left by the other 4. Since he is a "kitten" at age 4, he is also the most active. He loves the Laser~Pointer,little Red Lite, and will chase it until he drops. I have to limit his play sessions, because he just won't quit! He also "mis-behaves", in order to get my attention; he has figured out just what gets my goat, like climbing up on the shelves where I keep my breakables, or chewing on my art pieces. He also has a "thing" for chewing on anything made of foam rubber; he has gotten into my purse and removed foam-filled emery boards, rubber eye-glass holders, and rubber erasers. I have to watch out for these items, so he does not eat them, as I do not know how his system will react to them, and I do not want to find out! He also totally chews up the little rabbit-furry mice, I find the little decapitated carcasses all over the house!

alicekathleen Fresno, CA age: 63	Hi, that is funny about the laser! My Ocicat chased it the day I bought it, until she discovered it is "nothing", and now ignores it. She is one smart cat. At 15, she is healthy and loving, deaf however, and a bit skinny. Always a picky eater, eats a few bites and walks away. I free feed a high end dry food and offer wet food to her twice a day. Spicy, my 6 year old, is just starting to slow down a bit. She is a 'cat cat", not real bright, just affectionate and lovely. She would have been content to be a barn cat on a farm somewhere. One of my neighbors has a 18 year old cat, which comes out and sits in the sun. I see her less since I told them about heating pads and they bought one for her in the house. (my cats are indoor, but I do have a window extension so they can sit in the sun). She can still hear, as I stop and pet her whenever I see her outside. Skinny and looks her age, but still amazing girl. One of those grey and white cats with a bright pink nose.

catsmeow13 Elgin, TX age: 62	I have a few Senior cats. Chingy my old Siamese is amazing. She is 18. Has Arthritis- but otherwise she is in good health.Indoors only cat. Tachi is 14 and has thyroid disease. I have to give him 2 pills a day to control it. I feed him baby food from a spoon.They both are spoiled.

shmamie Willow Beach, AZ age: 39	I have 3 cats and though I love them all, my oldest Max, has a special part of my heart. He is 16 now and has several issues. I bottle fed him and raised him since he was a 4 week old kitten. To start he has Thyroid disease, which he gets medicine for twice daily. He has been on special dry food for a urinary tract problem almost his whole life. But now his teeth are bad so he mostly eats soft canned food. He also has some arthritis and has steps next to the bed to help him get on and off. (He always sleeps with me, lol) Last year was the biggest scare when I woke up in the morning and found him unable to walk. The vet thinks he might have had a stroke. After several days, he was able to walk again, but still gets wobbly on his feet from time to time. For this he is on medication every other day. Since the stroke he also has seizures. They only last about 5 seconds and he comes out of them right away with no side effects. The vet also mentioned the possibilty of a brain tumor, but to determine that I would have to put him through too much. He actually hasn't had that many seizures, 3 that I've seen in a year. But 3 too many. As of now, despite all these problems, believe it or not he's a happy and perky cat. I still see the brightness in his eyes. There is a point when that goes away. I remember it all too well and I dread the moment that it will come. I'm actually still in NJ and about to move to Arizona at the end of October. My biggest worry is how Max will handle the trip. I'm going to put him with one of the other cats during driving time so that he won't be alone in the crate. Hopefully he won't be too scared. On the whole though, I just give him tons and tons of love and attention on a daily basis. He knows he is loved and I think that has helped keep him around and happy for as long as it has!

alicekathleen Fresno, CA age: 63	Max might enjoy one of the self-heating mats on his move... my old cats loves hers. I have to move her next week and get her adjusted to a new house, worrisome. Will be living with someone who leaves the door open. Just have to do my best to make sure she knows the area and wears ID. I suggest if Max walks on a lead that you leave a chest harness on him if he does not mind, so that you have a way to be extra secure taking him in and out of the carrier. How we love our old cats!

There are several things I'll have to get at the pet store before leaving, so I'll check into the matt. Thanks! Good luck with your move and I would love to know how your cat is making out afterward.

alicekathleen Fresno, CA age: 63	Max will love it. I have two electric heaty pads, and Yas sleeps on them all year. The self heater is good in a carrier or on really cold night, I will put it on top of the heating pad. I just have to remember to get new collars for all the cats with new phone number on it right away.
