I noticed a lot of Christians start out with this on their profile.
"I am a God fearing blah blah blah"
I personally don't like that statement.
Fear is something I would never want to
experience with my supreme being.

Ain' t that the truth? I do not believe in a "god", so anyone Christian steers away from me fast. I did read an
interesting article in Smithsonian that the statues and buildings of the ancient Greeks were painted in vivid colors.
I was thinking that the christian churches just copied that, with all the statues, paintings, gilt, robes of the priest,
mumbo jumbo, etc. I wonder if the ancients "feared" gods, since life must have seemed arbitrary to them, a small
cut could get infected and kill you, a drought destroy the crops, etc. The christians think their religion is "new",
when it is really a rehash of other religions of that time and place, the Middle East/Mediterranean area.

God fearing is a very odd term. b/c it doesnt actually mean to be afraid of God. but other than that i dont kno what it means. when i was younger i asked a bunch of people and all i got from it was that it didnt mean to be afraid.
and alice prists are cathlic not christian. :3 but you prolly right about about them stealing the bright colors idea from the greeks. you kno the christmas is celebrated in winter b/c anthor pagan holiday took place at the same time, and that the holiday (amost the greeks anyway) promotted homosexual sex in abundance therefor the church decided to place a "godly" holidy in the winter for people to celibrate instead.

Catholicism is a form of Christianity tangle.
Personally if one believes in a greater power, i would have to say i would be scared of something with enough umph to create the universe. But, alas if one were to look at it as the god being an all knowing, all loving god... then perhaps not. Either way you look at it to me, it doesnt seem like you should be afraid of your god.

Hi, I believe that catholics are christians, as they believe in a god, bible, Jesus, etc. And since the protestant churches
split from "holy mother church" a few centuries ago, they are all part of one stew in my book. And I really should
capitalize Christian if I am going to capitalize Jews or Buddhism!

yeah i kno cathlic is a type of christian. but it focuses allot more on tradition than what the bible actually says.
and technically, christians came first, then catholics, then protestants that later became christians all over again.

God fearing = Oxymoron.
To me God is *love* how can one fear *love*?
Sometimes these "god fearing" folk use the word "awe" to describe their fear, but, awe and fear are not the same.. and BOTH imply a separation.. it honestly makes me wonder if they have a relationship with God.. ? For if they did, how could they feel fear?? The worst part is the inherent implication that you too should fear God and there is something wrong if you do not

What's the opposite of Love?
No, it's not hate.
It's fear.
Why teach the opposite
about your Creator.
If He made you just to threaten you with
His power, why worship that?
I can see that you should probably obey
out of "fear" from hell. Then you're worship
is for the wrong reasons and He will know that
and you'll probably end up in hell anyway.

Well if we look at it technically, First came the tribe of Abraham, then Judaism, then Christianity, then the protestant reformation... at least i think that last part is right,

It would be fun to go even further back.... Egyptian religions? Greek? Then we would have to step back to
the really old days! I read something interesting that suggested religions that develop in hot, dry countries
where dead creatures dry up and leave remains (the original mummies) tend to focus on an "after life", and
those developing in hot, wet climates where decay happens fast (Hindu) tend to focus on a cycle of rebirth.
Just something interesting, and I do believe religions show their origins of time and place.

the oppistie of love is indifferance. hate and fear implies you still care. you can hate and love, you can fear and love.

the oppistie of love is indifferance. hate and fear implies you still care. you can hate and love, you can fear and love.
An internet search does yield the result "indifference".
I was using the reference in "A Course in Miracles".
I'll just post the intro:
This is a course in miracles. It is a required course.
Only the time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not
mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only
that you can elect what you want to take at a given time.
The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love,
for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim,
however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of
love's presence, which is your natural inheritance.
The opposite of love is fear, but what is
all-encompassing can have no opposite.
This course can therefore be summed up very
simply in this way:
Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.
