Why do people here show themselves in pictures with their children?
Really, I think you should all think twice.
There are so many scammers on line, nevermind perps and pedophiles.
It would be so easy for some guy who says all the right things to get to know alot about you. And, bit by bit...he learns aboutyour single parent status, your living situation, your childs name, even.....???
What if something bad happened?
Is it really a good idea to advertise your kids on the internet?
Maybe you could save the kids picture like a treasure you would only share with someone you REALLY knew, and maybe who u met in person once or twice beforehand??
Just thinking about your kids safety.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

A photo alone has no identifiable info. It's just a picture unless you as the parent give out the info that one needs to cause any harm. The kids are not the ones that are on the computer communicating with others, the parents are.
I feel that kids are more at risk in their daily life with the people that they interact with on a regular basis. Local newspapers print articles about sports and acedemics with kids photos AND names AND the school that they attend. How easy is that for perps and pedophiles? Yet people seem to have no problem with things like that.

I completely agree with you they are at more of a risk in the real world than on the internet

You say that now.
Wait til you meet the guy you have been waiting for to sweep you off your feet, and he wants to take care of you and your beautiful baby.
After a few GREAT dates, he ties you up, leaves you in your closet, takes the baby and sells it in Mexico....or trys to ransom you if he has discovered your parents have money in the bank.
You wouldn't believe it, of course, unless it happened to you.

This is all true, but wouldn't having a picture of a child on your profile draw them right to you specifically? Why advertize? A guy who is obsessed with kids will do anything to get close to them including getting close to the mom, and the picture will draw the sickos right to you. They may not even mention the kids or act like they are interested at all in them because they have learned what red flags they put out. These guys are PRO's; it's what they do. It is a very strong need, and they have lots of patience especially when they can "see the prize". We have all heard of instances where the woman dated the guy for months or even years before he went after the kids, but he was just setting the bait, playing the game, licking his lips and salivating just a little, you know? Every time I see a woman's profile pic with their child, I just cringe. Even the men's pics with their kids make me a little uncomfortable. Yes, be proud of your kids. Yes, let them be the most important thing in the world to you. Do not advertize them. *Gets down from soapbox* This concludes my public service announcement for today.

Vicki, I know I will probably not change your mind, but there are some sick puppies out there, so much so that taking a child and selling them to a family would be way preferable to what some of them do to these kids. There are sadists, torturers, molesters, you name it out there, and having her picture up in a place where you want people to contact you is just an unacceptable risk. Your baby is beautiful, and you should be proud of her, and proud to be her mom, but you really owe it to her to do everything you can to keep her safe. You don't leave her alone in the park or the mall, you put her in a carseat, why not do this one simple precautionary measure?
