as to send a man to hell for sinning?
now, right off the bat i know some people are scripturalists and take the bible as being 100 percent accurate and all that, so if you are one of those then theres nothing about this topic you will like.
moving on....
if one assumes there is an afterlife, and if one assumes there is a heaven and a hell then one has to question what actions gets one sent to hell as opposed to heaven.
the traditional religious response is sinning or breaking whatever rules your deity has passed down to his speakers will get you sent to hell.
however i submit, that if there IS a god, and one that actually pays attention to us humans, then i don't see how he would be so petty as to send a man to hell for not (for instance) accepting jesus into his life or for eating pork.
would murder get you condemned? possibly, if god WAS interested in human affairs, i could see how evil actions (versus merely sins) could get you damned to hell.
however isn't it possible that hell is merely a state of inner turmoil, and that once dead it is our own lingering existence that decides how we spend eternity?

I think that if you learn to love in a godly way thats is your ticket to heaven. If you have sinned and we all have, that you are forgiven for those sins by learning to love and thru love you do not sin. Simple as that sounds it is difficult to do.

well thats my point, does god have a check list and if you break one of his rules you are automatically screwed? seems kinda harsh, if such a thing exists

It reminds me of a couple of naughty brothers, contemplating as to whether dad was really gonna whip their butts for misbehaviour.
Ignoring their father's words, they lulled themselves into a strong denial by rationalizing about how they perceived their dad's nature to be; "He gave birth to us". "He has spoken so kindly and with love towards us". "Surely, he wont whip us for our deeds."
The brothers were amazed and shocked when their father actualy appeared to administer judgement!
They ignored his words! If you want to know the nature of a man, you must know his words! Ignorance and specuatltion will only bring you an inconvenient surprise.

Great Thread Photo!!! I looked into The Lake of fire and hell and was hoping to find that it is like you suggested(a state of mind) but it looks like there is a hell or lake of fire, and the "jury"(Christians) are "hung" as to whether it will be "eternally" or "annihillation" there.
I read something interesting....it said..how would those of us(metaphorically)who were in Heaven, living(existing)in eternal bliss, feel if it was one of our loved ones "suffering" in hell? So I would have to think that, that is why many people(many Christians)are so "adamant" in tyring to "persuade" others to "turn to Christ" for "salvation"!
I have never studied Revalations and perhaps that is one of the reasons that I dont "stress the importance" of living a Christian life or to use a more common phrase..."shove Christianity down someones throat" more. However I am going to "search" further on this matter and hopefully make a more conscience effort to look at "both sides" and with His guidance, make a decision on where I stand with it.
I dont know how God "keeps score"(lol)but I am "sure" that He does, and now that I "know" there is a hell....shoot...I want my "check marks" on the ++++++ side!!!LOL...peace

even a human parent has the compassion not to punish a kid everyday of its life so i think a loving god would not punish its children for eternity in hell.
my theology teacher also said that the word translated as "hell" was the word for a garbage dump.

reggie, one thought, how can we trust that the bible is really gods word?
im not saying it is or isnt
is it not possible to believe in a god without the rules being handed down via scripture?

A real study of bible terminoligy can get you a lot of information.
The lake of fire with brimstone was a literal garbage dump where those who were considered unworthy of a regular burial were put to be burned. And as a dump and with human remains burning it was kept burning at all times.
If anyone cares for truth you just need to stop thinking the bible is the beginning and ending of all things and do a little research on your own.
