So, as most of us know, wingmen (and women) have traditionally represented attractiveness, excitement and appeal to those they are "winging" for. A group of women walk into a bar and are drawn to the group of men in the corner booth. Most often then not, there are only one or two single guys at this table; the others are only representing the qualities that their buddy possesses (or is imagining he possesses). The women instantly go into “trapping” mode eager to meet one of these men and lure him in.
So, what usually happens (at least in my experience) is that the single guy in the group is a total tool. No offense, but his buddies are giving him way too much credit. He’s often shy, introverted and highly agitated. The guys do what they can to set up the initial “hello” and then the woman is stuck talking to this guy whom has no qualities she is looking for. She was actually after the “wingman” and only after engaging in conversation with finds out is in a serious relationship or married for that matter. It’s unfair.
As with most nights out, the single women end up leaving early or acting “stand offish” to alleviate any pain in having to carry on a conversation with this poor bastard. I know, not fair but true! After speaking to my single male friends, I’ve found this to be true for men as well. The last thing they want to do is get caught up in conversation with a single, desperate female looking for her prince charming.
Let’s just save all of us single people some heartache and BS and do this; stop being wings for our friends and insist they take the initiative and do it themselves. It’s actually really that simple. You want to date; you need to work for it. You see an attractive individual, get off your a** and go over and chat. That way there will be no confusion as to who is single and who’s simply there for moral support!
That simple folks!

taking a theory a little too far. do guys really conciously think about this wingman theory when they go out? i guess i'm a little strange. i never think obout my friends as wingmen or wingwomen. they are my friends that i party with. we have a good mix of couples and singles that seems to work out. i don't limit the number of women i talk to on a given night. i don't prowl either. just party and hang out and good things happen. then they go horribly wrong, of course. since you like to subscribe to flawed theories, you should use gene simmon's foolproof way to get laid. you could talk to every man in the bar. eventually, one will go home with you. that is, if you find him desirable. good luck.

obviously your way isn't working or you wouldn't be complaining about your success at bars. keep on doing the same thing and then be surprised when it doesn't work. complaining about things is very attractive. it's amazing you're single.

Hey Smoke...chill out dude! Take a moment to realize that she may just be using "story telling" as a way to encourage and motive others out there. You know, be willing to take on a risk, go and chat with the woman, to get the reward!

Dude, I'm totally confused here. Did you read my blog? Are you sure you're not confused with someone else's? I wasn't dicussing "my way" versus "someone else's" way; I was simply stated my experience, and the experiences of my friends, when it comes to meeting single people. Chill out!

I have to disagree. The hallmarks of any successful relationship are subterfuge, obfuscation and deception.

I never used the Wingman thing. and I have traveled all over. Even took a FXE Harley to Germany for 2 yrs. And had no problem at all. Soldiers/guys in groups in forgein countries doesnt work. It has always been easier for me to lone it. With a Bike, there is never a question of the lame duck. It is pretty cut and dried.

Better to say too much, than to never say what you need to say. Say what you need to say.
