I love Iron Maiden too.
I have been a devoted Iron Maiden fan for 23 years straight.
From 1986 when the original "Somewhere In Time" tape came out to this very day in 2009.
I am 31 years old, and 23 of those years were spent listening to Iron Maiden mostly. Yeah, they have massive impact on my life and who I am overall.
I first heard about Iron Maiden through a friend that I knew when I was growing up in Elementary School. I was at the guy's house, and I was playing some video games on the original Nintendo gamesystem. I think it was Final Fantasy 1 if I remember right. He put on the original tape of "Somewhere In Time" right when it first came out in September 1986.
I heard "Wasted Years" on that tape, and I was hooked for life on that band.
I asked my friend, "Who is that?!!" He said it was a band from England called Iron Maiden. I had no idea who they were? I had never heard of them before.
I LOVED "Wasted Years" the first time I heard it, and I sat there listening to the whole tape all the way through, and I LOVED every minute of it.
From then, I wanted to find out all I could about this band.
I got the original LiVe AfTeR DeAtH concert tape about a month afterwards, and I LOVED that too. I got to watch the original VHS version of "LiVe AfTeR DeAtH" concert at the same friend's house a few weeks later, and I was awe-struck from what I saw in that concert.
I have ALL the Iron Maiden CDs and Iron Maiden off-take bands too like: Samson, Blaze, Diannio, Bruce D*ckinson's solo stuff, and Adrian Smith's solo stuff. I also have all the Iron Maiden DVDs. A few of the Iron Maiden VHS. The best of the best of the Iron Maiden tribute bands. I have about 10 Iron Maiden t-shirts. 2 Iron Maiden posters. The Iron Maiden "Run to the Hills" Biography book. A few Iron Maiden magazines that were completely devoted to just them in a special edition of major Rock magazines. A few Eddie/Edward figures (The "Somewhere In Time" cyborg Eddie/Edward).
My gosh, I could talk all night about Iron Maiden. Many people have told me that I am a walking Iron Maiden encylopedia. I know all sorts of things about Eddie and the boys.
For example: Did you know that Paul Diannio is not Iron Maiden's first singer? Nope. Iron Maiden's first singer was a guy called Dennis Wilcox. He only stayed around when Iron Maiden were a club band in the late 70's in London. He left the band in the late 70's, and Paul joined up. Although there are no recordings of Dennis Wilcox singing in the band at all. Unless Steve Harris has some old bootleg tapes of those early club concerts before their first major concert: Ruskin Arms concert.
Iron Maiden started in 1975 as a Shock Rock London underground club band. The Carts and Horses Resturant was their first gig. They would have been signed to a record deal much sooner than 1980 if they had gone completely 100% punk. Steve would not let the band do that, although in those first 2 Iron Maiden CDs, there are plenty of Punk influences in them, and the first 2 Maiden CDs were considered as Punk CDs when they first came out in the very early 80's. They got out of the Punk scene with "The Number Of The Beast" CD.
Iron Maiden's first real recongition came from the K.I.S.S. "Unmasked" European tour in 1980. That was the first time the world got to really hear Iron Maiden. Before then, Iron Maiden were just a London band or a British band. Iron Maiden opened up for K.I.S.S. during that tour. 8 years later in 1988 at the Donington Festival show, K.I.S.S. would open up for Iron Maiden during Maiden's "7th Son" tour.
My favorite Maiden songs are:
1. Wasted Years
2. Powerslave title song

6. Where Eagles Dare
7. The Prisoner
8. Strange World
9. The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner

13. Paul's version of Sanctuary
14. Paul's version of Murders in the Rue Morgue
15. Bruce's version of Phantom of the Opera
16. Run to the Hills
17. Still Life
B-Side songs:
1. Rainbow's Gold
2. King of Twilight
3. Cross Eyed Mary
4. Burning Ambition
5. almost want to say Women in Uniform
6. Total Eclipse
7. Reach Out
8. That Girl
9. Juanitia
10. Judgement Day
11. Roll Over Vic Vera
12. Blaze's version of Afraid to Shoot Strangers

Before I got into Iron Maiden, I listened to a lot of 80's New Wave Pop. Stuff like: Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, 80's Prince, Phil Collins Genesis, Banamarama, and others.
I used to love Duran Duran. Still do to this day, just their 80's stuff anyways.
In 1st and 2nd Grade in Elementary School, I was listening to a lot of 80's New Wave Pop. Duran Duran especially.
So re-listening to Duran Duran's 80's songs brings back millions of memories of my childhood back to me.
Also, these songs NEVER get old. These songs are just as good today in 2009 as they were back in the early and mid 80's.
So catchy, and full of hooks and choruses.

metallica is good but i dont think they ever released a masterpiece. justice was there best. good pick though. escape was the best song on lighting. way to go gurl
Blasphemy.....One, Master of Puppets, and of course the greatest bass solo ever compiled by Cliff Burton, Anesthesia (pulling teeth). Call of Ktulu, Orion, and Four Horsemen. Blackened, and Battery.
Yes, there are NUMEROUS good metal bands, but let's give credit where credit is due.

Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Pantera - Far Beyond Driven
Suicidal Tendencies - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow
Suicidal Tendencies - Lights... Camera... Revolution!
Machine Head - Through the Ashes of Empires
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Morbid Angel - Covenant
----------------------------------------------------------
Metallica - Kill'em All
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Metallica - And Justice For All
Slayer - Hell Awaits
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss
King Diamond - Conspiracy
King Diamond - Abigail
King Diamond - Them
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Motorhead - Overkill
those listed above the lines are personal favorites of mine, not necessarily "greatest" albums when compared to the whole genre. although Vulgar Display of Power could be. very suprised no mention of Motorhead Ace of Spades the true founders of speed/thrash metal. Metallica really got speed metal going into mainstream, which in turn spawned many other bands to follow suit. Racer X also. Judas Priest enfashioned the metal "look" along with great music as well back in the 70's. Iron Maiden showed you could write about pertinent current (run to the hills/ 2 minutes to midnight) themes and stay true to the genre as well. Too many bands to list all at one time. of course none of this possible without Black Sabbath starting it all. a lot of the metal bands point to The Ramones as a band they looked up to when they get interviewed and asked about influential artists.

If you haven't listen to "Embodyment" then you need to pick them up. But i must warn you that some of their albums are different than the others but still good. Heavy as the wrong you have done in your life upon you on some. May make you feel like you have done wrong your whole life. But one will make you feel like taking on the world and crushing all in your path. See what it does for you. "Embrace The Eternal" is straight up death/grind core metal. GREAT STUFF!!! "Hold Your Breath" is more like HELMET "Meantime" Album but with a singer. Trust me please when i say that if you put it in alone it will move you. Meantime crushes mainley because no one expected it to. Meantime still kills me to this day and bought it when it came out on release day! Just bashed my head in singing and Crying. Wish i could be in front of you to get my point across.

ok people. how's things been? i bought the new Cannibal Corpse album to evaluate and disect plus listen to the producers work. everyone knows Erik Rutan's work. he does some of the best and has his own group, Hate Eternal! Great grind core metal. he has produced their (cannibal corpse) new album so im expecting great stuff. should be one for the record books but i dont know yet. this is what music is all about. actually getting the most out of every album you can possible get and even expierencing the producers work. thats why i cant seem to agree with everyone's preference in music because they only like at impulse. do you see where im coming from? i enjoy music or metal music far deeper than most. i understand it mainly because i can play it also. that's what makes the difference. you should all expierence me. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! kidding people.
