This may be considered for a poll.
I am just wondering if a gender may be totally one sided.
And age may play a part in your answer.
Thank you to anyone that chimes in.

You know in this day and age I think it means just that a long term committed relationship. Marriage is a piece of paper that you really don't need. You can be committed without the paper. These days a lot of couples may lose benefits tax wise and other ways if they get married so they chose to not do it for financial reasons. Doesn't mean they are any less committed.

It can mean one or the other. That's why when you are
dating you really have to ask the person what their
wants are and what they need out of a relationship.
If you have the same definition great.
If not move on. Find someone who does.

Means what it says: Long term relationship, which could mean married or committed to someone but not married. It could mean committed to more than one person as in a three-way long term relationship. It could be a heterosexual or homosexual long term relationship.

Some will say LTR meaning either. After all most of us have had steady bfriends or gfriends in their life, as an LTR, exclusive. Marriage may come later if both are ready for the commitment.
In my opinion I think it kinda goes like this for most people:
Acquaintance
Friends
Exclusive friends
lovers
committed to each other with the possibly of living together
marriage
And unfortunately for some, the final stage:
Divorce

Nah---Cause Perm. isn't so permanent anymore, and I'm betting if I introduced someone as my Temp. b/f. He would get slighly sensitive...
Some people are a little whiny of the possibility of being replaced at any given second.

Long term is just that. Long term. I don't see it as precluding marriage but not necessarily including it either. I for one don't really want to get married until I retire and can spend 24/7 with a man. My job does not allow it right now.

LTR now a days has to be clarified between the two adults that are dating...earliest as possible to stop potential future pain.
for the answers depend on the kind of people you are with...
if she is a traditionalist then it would mean length of time to date.. at least 6 months
which will lead to engagement which should lead to marriage
if she is more modern with some traditional values... could mean above or shorter dating,
small engagement marriage
if she is main stream liberated it means long period of dating past 6 months... could be to death.. may or may not live together... most likely she will keep her house and he will keep his.
what happens wrong, is if the person you are with,
are not on the same page as you...
trouble and heart ache then insues.
that is why when you first start dating somehow you have to have that conversation
and see if that person feels the same way as you, and if they don't ... best go
looking some where else.
