If my IM was working I'd talk to you but it's not.

It usually takes quite a while before the first message from the other person appears after the IM box opens, so I find something else to do while I'm waiting. At least, there is an audio signal when the message appears to alert me to come back and read it.
I find the IM process to be extremely slow, but some of that may be the time it takes the other person to think of a reply and type it out. Also, IM usually hangs up (or drops out) after a few minutes. I warn the person who contacted me about these problems at the start so they won't think I dumped them in the middle of a conversation. I assume the problems are due to the fact that I have a dial-up connection; however, it could be related to the amount of traffic on the DH server.
Frankly, I think the forums and the groups work faster for exchanging information, although I realize that excessive personal chit chat is discouraged (and prohibited) in those places, and it's not private (although, privacy is unimportant to me).
