I heard, sort of third hand, today about taking Red Yeast Rice, I think that's the right name for High Blood Pressure. Has anyone heard anything about this. Supposedly it comes from Mayo Clinic?? Just wondering if anyone knows anything about it.
Thanks

It's for High Colesterol... the Chinese used it long ago and I guess still do.

Supposed to be a good hangover remedy too. (drug companies are robbing us blind... lol)

Thanks!
Now I want to ask if it's OK to take with my HBP medicine or should I find out from the Doctor. I know this might be a stupid question but from what I heard today it has the potential to be very affective. What have you heard? I'd really be interested in your response.

Not only are the drug companies taking total advantage of us but I'd love to be able to solve at least part of my problems using a more natural product if it's safe and has some potential for improvement. I actually looked at Red Yeast Rice today at Walgreen's and they aren't exactly giving it away. So don't really want to buy it if it's not any good.

Sorry to go on and on...it's late...I'm behind and I'm going to shut up and go to bed.

Thanks a bunch!

I do not go to the dr for everything cause he would never let me get off meds. I check my own blood pressure and sugar and decide what I need to keep it right. Do not do this if you have not already been doing it. I just cannot hand anything as important as my health over to anyone completely. I got to take part.

Just google Red Yeast Rice and there are a lot of places that have info. I looked at mayoclinic.com and found a bunch of stuff. Apparently it is used for a lot more than I thought.

Be careful mixing natural stuff with prescription medicines because it could contain some of the same ingredients.

I took Red Yeast Rice capsules for about a year and didn't have a signicant drop in cholesterol. You can get them at health food stores. Guess you might say I was underimpressed!

Thanks everybody!! I have looked into it and decided to wait and ask the doctor next time I see him. Of course the stories I heard were just great but I'm a little concerned about mixing with the medicine I'm already on so I'm just going to wait. Thanks for all the help...it was greatly appreciated!

Ya know, the pharmacist would also be a great source of info. He (or she) would know about whether it would be a bad mix with your other meds.PLUS-you could save a trip and a co-pay to the doc...
