it depends on the people involved and the connection.that far away is a gamble no matter what. i heard someone say they plan a mini vacation and include the 'meeting'. i think thats great advice and probably what i'd do if i was in that situation. anyway...at least a month and you'll have to foot the bill.

long distance relationships are hard on emotions and the pocket you have to have dedication to stay with it and meet someone.
the hardest thing about a long distance relationship is not being able to touch them, or look into their eye or tell them you love them face to face. but if you can hold on alittle bit those things could happen.

I don't think the waiting is such an issue, but sharing expenses is always a good idea, even for local dates.

yep if the other person is really interested in you they would split the cost to go out there. it helps also getting the other person out there quicker too.

I went knowing a strong connection, aware of the risks, in under a month.
I can travel alone, and knew I would enjoy myself whatever happened. 
I would not go, putting myself at anyone's mercy, ever.
I would not have anyone in my home. If he came to my town, he was gonna stay at a hotel anyway.
I was in control of my life and surroundings, as always!

the key is here people..... if both share expenses.....>> at least you know... both are willing to spend alittle... an there is some feelings there...
if only one person pays..... they just might say>>>YES......NOT TO HURT YOUR FEELINGS...but they might not really like you that much...

No answer is really right... it just depends on LOT of factors.
I met a lady online... emailed for about a week... IMed for another week and then talked on the phone for a week.
The next week found me in Alabama...staying at her house... but there was a STYX concert that weekend.
In other words..she *saved* me hotel fare as I would have, probably, gone to see them anyway.
(I get "comped" tickets to most STYX events... I'm friends with some of the production crew)
Wound up marrying the bit...... LOL
But we were together for a little over 5 years.

Met a very nice guy on another site...went out and it was too late to travel back home so I stayed at his place. He offered me his bed or the guest room...I took the guest room. Guess What??????????? No second date....go figger
Well he treated his guest well...coffee brought to me in bed and breakfast cooked. I would have said no to a second anyway...too short...

I agree, it depends upon the people involved. You have to get a feeling if traveling that distance is important enough. Then again if there is no chemistry, then you have to see it as a way to see more of the country.
