This year I would like to learn how to flyfish. Can you suggest a good guide and a good place to do this? Would prefer the Oregon, WA, Truckee River location or Sacramento or Northern CA.

I would suggest you take some fly fishing lessons before your trip. A lot of Fly Shops have Fly fishing classes that will teach you how to cast with a fly rod. In Norther CA there are a lot of nice places to fly fish. I have fished in Hat creek and the Sacramento River. There is a Fly Shop in Redding that can hook you up with a good guide. The Sacramento river above Lake Shasta is a good place to start. You can wade in the river if you are careful. I have fished it around Dunsmur with great success in July. But if you call up the Fly shop in Redding they will point you in the right direction. The guides there will take you to several rivers in that area. But if you want to get away from the crowds and do a float trip......try the John Day River in Oregon. The Carson River in South Lake Tahoe can be good fly fishing in Summer as well.
