My 27 year old daughter committed sucide August 2007. After a battle with drug addiction. My husband (we were married 30 years) died suddenly of a massive heart attack 1.5 years later January of 2009. I raising her now 5 year old. So at 50 I am a single parent. Something I never thought I would be.

my wife shot herself and my ten year old son .i,m just now beginning to live again.the scars will always be there, but i have to try and go on. one of the hardest things is finding someone who really knows how you feel, for sometimes a smell or a toy will bring back memories that make you cry.

My Sympathies on your terrible loss.
I commend you though for your taking care of your grandchild.
Our lives can change so quickly....we often don't understand why.
My Husband died in JAN...2008 suddenly of the same thing...I had no idea where I was to go or what to do. A huge loss/....as you well know.
Your little one will hopefully help you move on and with memories of both your husband and you Daughter seeing them in her.
I have a 5 year old Granddaughter...she is my life. I do not know what I would have done without her during that difficult time.

@Rooster, I'm so sorry for your loss. I do understand. I've been there (not suicide) but a loss and a my heart still aches. It took forever for me to see the "sunshine" again, yet, it also taught me how precious life is and it's not to be taken for granted.

Raising a 5-year-old at 50 is tough....and even harder doing it as a single parent. Your love shows though in your willingness to be a mom again.....

I'm sorry to hear your losses, two so close to you and so close together.
I'm glad God has granted you the care of your granddaughter.
It must help having someone so close to you that has the same loss and can understand the tears you both share. It does get better gradually sometimes to gradually.
I'm a 4th year widow, just beginning to feel alive again. I lost my husband to Pancreatic Cancer Jan 07'. Unfortunately as I try to get back into the work force there isn't much of it there for many of us.. I'm to young to retire.
Not much to live on, but trying and not giving up yet. To much to live for.
Grace under fire.. Sempe Fi..

In March 07 I lost my husband suddenly.. he was recuperating from back surgery and got one of those antibiotic resistant infections that shut him down in 2 days.. I then lost my mother in Oct. 07 after she had heart surgery..It really didn't hit me until after my mother passed and then almost shut me down completely... but I am a survivor and very independent and am doing well now...I have changed many things in my life (the way I think and do)since life is way toooooo short....

your story is almost identical to mine. i'm raising my grandaughter alone after losing my husband two years ago. We adopted our grandaughter after my daughter gave up her parental rights. She also committed suicide in 2004. She was 26 yrs old. It's a heartbraking story. I am glad to find someone who understands this pain. I don't want to keep reliving this tragedy but it helps sometime to find others in similar situation. I like to know how others cope.
