Well I've lived here all my life and I'd say there are not many places to meet nice mature people, but there are plenty of places to go and enjoy once you meet that special someone.
I've done the bar scene and drank enough to be pickled for the rest of my life and that's not for me anymore. I have lots of interests and a pretty good personality, but I still find men are very particular. If you're not a perfect size 8 then they don't want to be seen with you. I tend to think that it is what's inside a person's heart that counts, not their outward appearance. They also think that a larger body means a lazy mind. I'm well traveled and have met some rather influential people from the business world when I worked. I've always been able to hold up my end of the conversation. But then again, that's my opinion.
Having said all that, I'd say to you to not give up, I haven't. You never know who might just flash you a "big smile" someday in the supermarket or as you pump your gas.
Believe it or not Fredericksburg was even deader until the last 15 or so years.
