Chilvary probably is...one of those old English words that has no meaning...

But chivalry is still alive and well. You just have to be the type of person toward whom men like to be chivalrous...

@ mendi- It was a typo. Has anybody ever told you that you're very nit-picky? Are you a Virgo? There, I've proof-read and inserted correct punctuation. Happy?

What is chilvary? If you meant chivalry, then no. It's hard to kill something that never existed.

Southern hospitality is still kicking. The thing about it is that lots of "yankees" moved here and stayed. That made them "damn yankees".

hey NY I have been in texas for 30 years and the people down here are the friendliest in the contry. Until they get behind the wheel of a car or truck. Then you may be safer in afganistan or iraq.

Still believe the chivalry is alive but slowly starting to hide as the years go on. Why would a gentleman want to take the time to teach a child manors, respect,, helping others looking after the interest of those that needs help and many other virtues , when society seems to be against that and more of a me first attitude.
Here is a little thing to consider.

When teaching a small child to help someone, do not have them look at the color of there skin or sex first.

When teaching your girl to be self supportive and handle thing on her own, let them know it is still OK to let a boy or a man carry there bags or open a door.

And here is a shocker that will floor you. Got it from a training class I had 15 years ago. Why not have a mother date a son and a father date a daughter? Here is the meaning of it. Just set aside one on one time with your child to take them out and show them how to act in public, and ecperiance a good time without pressure from their peers and others.

And I do realize that the world is not perfect but what about a positive male or female role model for a child to learn and respect? could not hurt.

Chivalry is not dead and there are still a few of us out there that practices it and does what is right but we are far and few between.

Some times we would just like to here a little thank you and know it is worth the effort to do the right thing (s).

No! I think it`s a sign of respect. I`ve dated women who never had a door opened.for them,a chair pulled out,or an umbrella held over them. If you care for someone,it`s the least you can do. It`s the little things that go a long way!

Chivalry is certainly not dead, but sometimes its a crapshoot as to how she will respond. Clearly I want a relationship with someone who undersands, respects and accepts chivalrous behavior, but I have been amazed by how many women see my being chivalrous as akin to demeaning them as less than equal, second class, and the need to be protected mode.

I agree, it's respect...

At my college, I've opened doors for women...
Sometimes I get a smile and nice eye contact, that makes it all worth it.
Sometimes I get a respectful 'thank you', which is nice.
Sometimes I get a hurried or perhaps forceful 'thanks', which is a bit annoying but acceptable.
Sometimes they don't acknowledge my existence, which makes me think, 'wow how clueless' and 'why the hell do I do this?'... Then I remember about all the 3 previous instances and I do it again next time.

I have also opened doors for men who have their hands occupied with heavy things and don't look able of doing it themselves without trowing anything on the ground first...

Also agreed... too many women in this country seem to interpret a simple almost meaningless gesture or compliment as demeaning behavior, perhaps they interpret any sort of chivalrous behavior as an attempt to make a move on them (which is not always the case).

Yes, my last GF shot it, kicked it's nuts in, disemboweled it to get them out, shoved it in chivalries mouth, right before chopping it's head off. It's probably not dead though. Just badly mutilated waiting on it's HMO

There is another category which is worth mentioning
Though I may add I haven't come across these in the USA that often.
Sometimes you also may get
" I drink beer and don't shave my legs so don't think I am inferior"

this is a rare case experience in Europe

I don't think it's dead. I think it's a combination of
things such as how he was brought up and what kind of
level of respect he has for the person he is with. If he
rally cares and has feelings for her - it'll be second nature
to open doors - walk on the outside of the sidewalk - treat her
with dignity and respect and just be there to protect her. I know
I know women can protect themselves and open their own doors blah
blah blah - but I'm not one of them. I like to see the manners
and know that someone thinks enough of me to show them too!
