I guess it depends on how much driving you want to do. The Royal Gorge is great, and it's an easy way to spend a day. Even during this time of the year it's warm enough to enjoy it.
While you're in that area, a side trip to Bishop Castle is always fun. Here's a guy that really knows how to "stick it to the man!"
Heading west on I-70 there's a ton of great stuff to do. If your friend likes "serious" skiing, head up to St. Mary's Glacier. You can snowshoe to the top and ski it back down. That's what Colorado skiing is all about. Even in August there's skiing on the glacier!
You also need to take them up on the Continental Divide on US-6. I like giving people the "loop tour". Take I-70 to US-6, drive past Loveland Ski Area and over the divide. Then come back down through Breckenridge and Dillon. Then stop at the factory outlet shops for a break. Finally, bring them back through the Eisenhower/Johnson tunnel.
Of course Denver itself has plenty of cool things. Museums, art galleries, a great zoo, Coors, Red Rocks, Roxborough Park, and about a hundred other things!
That's what I'd do... for starters anyway!

The Cheyene Mountain Zoo is a good place to go . Its the only mountain zoo in the country and I think the world . You can also take your friend down to the Great Sand Dunes . Go white water rafting on the Arkansas River . Take him to Cripple Creek , lots of history and gambling if thats what either of you are into . Check out the Colorado Tourist website , lots of ideas .

You could probably flip a coin on the map of Colorado and find an amazing adventure! Whatever your interest are I am sure you can find something to match. Glenwood Springs Pool is awsome after skiing all day, especially on a snowy night! Have fun!

Take I-70 west through Glenwood Canyon. Stop at the hot springs in Glenwood Springs. Go towards the Powderhorn Ski resort. Good place to ski. Have lunch at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Mesa. Go to Palisade for the wineries. Tour downtown Grand Junction. Go up to the Colorado National Monument. Head to Delta and see the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Go through Ouray and Silvertown on the way to Durango. Then go to Cortez and see the cliff dwellings. Head north and go to the Gateway Resort. Leave there and go on Highway 141 back through Unaweep Canyon towards Whitewater. I live in Unaweep Canyon. If you let me know when you are coming I can guide you to some places of interest that most people do not know about. Where does your feller live?
