I am real.
a) But I actually have the same concerns. I have been to a few dating sites and all of them people act the same way: 1) they request a picture 2) they request a chat 3) they request a phone # 4) they even call you a few times 5) they're gone.
I am not sure I understand what motivates them cos chatting and phoning is a time consuming so I assume there must be a motive to such behavior. I have a few theories but I won't voice them here.
That is why I will NOT advertise my picture on any site. I will NOT give out my phone. I will NOT chat. I can meet somebody IN PESON in PUBLIC place.
b) I did meet a few men though but it didn't work because there was nothing to talk about. I believe that people should share some common ground. When they rely exclusively on so called "chemistry" (this is what men are after) it'll let you down sooner or later. So, I stay out of guys who expect me to be "feelie touchie" kind of a person on the first or second date.
My motto is:
If you want a relationship - you work on it.
If you want sex - you pay for it.
So, make sure YOU know what you are after. And don't mix them in.

There are real people out there and I have met several. You will always have those that, like its been said, submit old photos or embelish on their profiles, etc....
But there is a way to meet and feel safe. I used to belong to a chat room that would have a get together once a month at different spots in NY. The main areas were Syracuse, Albany, and Binghamton. By doing it this way there was always a group of people and you felt safe to meet and greet. Anywhere we had parties we booked rooms at a close hotel for those having to travel too far to drive back that night. Usually got cheaper rates that way. As long as you have a person living in that area that has the time and energy to set the whole thing up.

After reading what is posted here, I feel that a response (from me), is needed.
I am on several sites..Quite a few of the ladies (I am a male)use old photos, I have met a few in person and was shocked at what I was looking at. They do not describe themselves as what they truely look like. There is so much dishonesty. A true picture helps a lot. A look at the picture, you know if you want to continue or not. If the picture passes the test, then it's meeting time. My feeling is this: we meet, if we don't click, we walk away. No reasons given, none expected....
If you are fake, it's going to come out anyway.....Be honest from the beginning. NONE of us need the dishonesty nor actually have the time for it!!

A lot of men do the same thing. I met with a guy that had a picture and a profile that said he was 52. When I met him he turned out to be 62 and quite different than his pic. I immediately excused myself and told him since he couldn't be honest with me, I didn't want anything to do with him.
Honesty and being straight are essential when trying to meet people online. You know you see my pic and read my profile and its what you see is what you get and that is the way it should be. And like you just said, if you don't like the photo, you don't go any further. I agree its only right and don't want to be with anyone who doesn't feel the same way.

I'm not from NY, (Ill. here) but have also met some who are NOT who they said.
Had one guy on Yahoo personals send me a picture, great looking guy, tall thin, in the Medical field... Said he was 6-4, and 250lbs....
We agreed to meet......
Well he was 6-4 ok...but weighed over 600 lbs!!!!
The medical field he talked of was emptying bedpans, and cleaning rooms!!!!
The picture was actualy when he was in college some 20 plus years ago!
I swear his vehicle sighed a sigh of relief when he got out.....

First off let me say, " Hey Carlito", I am around his age and I agree with his position on this topic to a point. I believe that most people that I've met or chatted with on-line regardless of the sight are looking for sex and perfection! Some-one to fulfill their fantasys without the slightest clue of how to realistically fulfill their "partner's " fantasys. Just selfish people that's all! And when you reply to any of their profiles, they totally ignore you, when you might be the love of their life. Go figure!

1%?
I'M ONE OF 'EM.. That I am!!!
Story of my life, always in the minority....
But yes, They are all looking for perfection.
As if they're so perfect...I have my doubts!
They apparently forget that they crucified the ONLY perfect one!
