so i write poetry and ive been told its quite good, i have a copy of poets market and ive been sending out to magazines for over 6 months and either nobody responds or they dont want it
any tips from published poets and or publishers?
Oh and just in case anyone thinks im tooting my horn when i say my writing is good heres a piece i wrote last week (hint hint possible publishers ou there)
Babbling voodoo blues
I do not need to be here
I do not need this irrational paralyzing fear
In this place with my generic face
Where political witches brew pleasant peasant revolutions in dirty white-houses
Nothing like a good scapegoat to bring the people together
"I dont understand whats funnier than THAT?!"
And beauty has been officially defined by evolutionary pimps to be tanned leather flesh pressed on cold metal
Beauty is a mythical smile brought on by love alone
Alone
All one
I am one with nothing but my own maelstrom
I wanna kick down the door and burn the fake world to its floor
Goodbye my small world
After all you were a false hollywood-hell the whole time
"I try to remember your voice saying things you never said"
And nobody is hungry enough to strive for anything that tastes better than decent
Fish frozen for sick minds served by empty father figures who fear punishing
Ignoring spurned kids lurking at the parking lot lights edge
They'll torch your precious possessions when you pull the cataract off your eyes and see cobwebs
I dont have a chair to rest my feet on
Give me a chair to disrespect
Give me a hope I can truly expect to show up
"We are making signifigant progress with our war at the edge of the map"
But the dream of the psychopath has been realized by the wrong kind of madman
The rational madman who denys his primal shriek and wears a suit and tie
The rational madman brings destruction much more subtly
The snake with far less teeth and less pride
My madness is brought about by lack of beauty and truth
Under every smile I see those familiar 4 fangs
"I cannot seem to rid myself of the notion that I am more than a musical note in some vast symphony"
During long hot lonley nights i dream of voices which I inhale in a fog
And spiderous music pouring from a green violin carved from the forests breathing bones
Bones in the sky fly by and all I ever wanted was real clouds
The forest in my head my head is burning
Burning
Thats all I ever needed was a good dose of flames

I would like to suggest something and it is only my opinion.
This work is long and when a work is this long without being very focused, it loses the reader's interest almost immediately.
While you have good thoughts, you have written them in a disjointed and somewhat scattered manner. I had a difficult time following it and getting meaning from it.
Having submitted and having been rejected, you can see there might be a hitch along the way...
You must remember this---the work you send to a house without having it edited first professionally, will almost always be rejected. Even work sent to an editor and then submitted for publiciation may be rejected.
You have to be 100% absolutely sure to the core that your work is the best you can do. There are so many other writers out there doing just what you are doing, hoping to just get picked up.
It's a lot harder than that. Each piece must be polished, rubbed and honed to as near perfection as possible. Find an editor or an English teacher, or someone who has been published and ask the question:
How can I make this pop??
Just the fact that you are writing, want to write and can actually write----the news is not all bad---is good enough. Now work on that piece until the thoughts are crystal clear, make the reader want to , have to finish the piece and want to re-read it.
I have been writing and submitting for sooo many years and I still get a  now and again. After I read it, I see why.
Everything you see here on the various posts of mine have been published with the exception of about 5...
Work at this, you can be good.

thanks 4 the criticism, my unpublished writers ego needed that
yeah i have more focused writing that that (which is rather disjointed)
the other way that im trying 2 get exposure is by reading to audiences at coffeshops, slams, etc as much as i can

You're young and have lots of time to do this. It's gonna take work and dedication, sounds like you have it!

lizard I am no expert but I used to write poetry many years ago and it's such a personal thing. I was never very confident about showing anyone so I wrote mainly for myself.
That is so awesome that poem I absolutely love it and you definitely have talent. By the way it would make a great song cause those words would be so powerful as lyrics.
