I like companionship, but I also like living alone....and that isn't particularly compatible with what some women want. I date with the view that somebody could change my mind about things, but that would surprise me.

Yes, both geography and chemistry can be factors. As well as physics when there's a bad arthritis day. I was a history prof but that's in the past. I can still remember some basic principles of biology -- the "lab" experiences were the best to get the real feel of some of them!
