Hey Biker! Let me answer this one for you.

One of the reasons we don't see many Alaskan girls posting here on DHU is because they're probably busy doing what needs done to maintain their lifestyle here in the Greatland.

Alaskan women (at least those living in rural areas ~ some in the cities, as well) are pretty damn independent (a good thing in my book) and, being so, they have a lot to keep themselves occupied ~ man hunting isn't at the top of their list. There are exceptions but, for the most part, Alaskan women are satisfied with doing for themselves.

Alaskan living is something they are, not something they do. Seven month long winters, with the average daylight amounting to only about 4 hours, is pretty tough; it can be depressing as hell if you don't really love where you are and what you're doing ~ and it's especially hard on women (don't know the physiological reasons for that, but I do sympathize with them). Cruising around on sites like this is a pretty good avenue for touching bases with the rest of the world; maybe just to get an idea what others think.

Some do post often (SitkaRains is one of them) because they want others to know what they've found in Alaska; and, maybe, just maybe, they'll discover a kindred spirit in the form of a man able to accept their independent ways and independent hearts. Not many of us males can do that ~ we're supposed to be the strong ones, right?

If we don't see many of them posting here, it isn't because they're bashful or shy, it's because they choose to be the strong, silent type...

Give me a girl who can split wood, haul in a halibut, skin a moose, and look great covered in fish slime, and she can be anything else she wants to be ~ quiet, loud, obnoxious, nasty, or mean ~ it's all good when you've hooked one of 'em.

Keep your bait floatin'...

Hey Tedric how ya doin today buddy the reason I'd asked is because I've had quit a few of them stop at my profile some have left winks etc so I figure if they have time maybe they should talk a little in the forums everybody gets quiet time away from the hustle and bustle seems to me there is a lot of people out there just reading and not posting because I've had girls from other states and countrys for that matter stop at my profile and I'd never seen them in any of the threads either now I haven't checked how many Alaskan guys are out there but hell they don't post either as a matter of fact this is the first I've seen you anyway I realize we all have a life and more important things to do then sitting on our asses in front of a computer and I'm just as guilty I've only been here since 73 myself stationed at FT RICH and since then I'm like a seed in fertile ground growing and growing love the land and the people just wish.....

Great Question, BTW dang I didn't noticed I was so known out here. I don't see many men from Ak posting out here either. I have noticed and the ones that hit my mail box are recent transplants. They want to pick my brain on living up here. Then when I give them my take on a situation. It is null and void. Somewhere I am getting the idea that so many of people think Alaskan's are dumb When we really are per captia the most read state in the nation. We have to do something with our time.

So I guess I don't think it is Alaskan women as much as Alaskan's period. We all have down times in our lives so we get on the computer. I know I was on another site. I was the lone poster in Alaskan forums. I hated it. I was so thrilled when Tedric posted in here.
There is so much about our state we could be discussing, sharing etc. Since you are from I am assuming the Matanuska Valley area. Tedric is from the Kenaii area, I am from the S.E. area now but I still have deep ties to the northern part of the state.

Tedric I think I can answer part of the reason why S.A.D.D. affects more women than men, Women tend to say it is too cold so they don't go out. So many people that realize that if they get outside just 5 minutes a day. Let just their face absorb light rays. That will stop most of the symptoms from S.A.D.D. I know when I lived way interior. I suffered from it one year, It wasn't till March did I realize I had made myself into a hermit by not going out each and everyday.

I would love to see our Alaskan Forums actually become a place where we could talk about so many things that are happening in our state.

Just my .02 cents

Rains,
Nice to hear what you have to say and all of you. Life can be full of day to day things and for me it now involves a clock in work day!! I am so use to being the woman who wakes when she wants ( early) fills her days with life in a easy going way and filling it with hard work that brings me joy. The home, granddaughters, gardening, cooking, fishing, photography, art, BB Q's and relaxing in front of a nice fire in doors or out and any thing that has wheels.. LOL JUST A GOOD ALASKAN LIFE, need no hassles or confusion. Planing to get back on track with my own ventures and on the road to that!

It would be nice to hear from others in AK. MEN hehehehe, ones that have a soul and heart and do know what they want in a good life. I am older and been there done that and really looking it will happen when it does, if it does not worried about that I love life.... I am a big ball of all aspects and love it will never change. A bad good girl with heart and soul, love and hope, emotions that are felt and accepted for who I am. And that's not to damn bad.....

Any way the people who I have read comments here in the Alaska things seem all like good people. Nite to all hope to here things... Nite

HEY LADIES Rains its kind of hard not to notice you out there like I said not to many posting from here. I live in Kenai old town Cedric says Anchor Point that puts him about 80 miles south almost in Homer. Midnight I've been saying for the last couple years that I want to get me enough land around here somewhere and far enough away from everything that if I want to walk out my back door with no clothes on and take a piss while I shoot my gun ( a real gun ) so I know how you feel sooner or later I will take it light ladies....

Biker ~

I retired two years ago. Year before that, I bought 10 acres of muskeg for $5200. Paid cash. My nearest neighbor is a mile away, through a spruce forest; can't see their house. Ones I can see are in the Carribou Hills, a couple miles east of me. West and south is unoccupied forests and muskegs. From my land I have unobstructed views of all four volcanoes (Douglas, Augustine, Illiamna, and Redoubt) and a good portion of the inlet. Living off the grid, but only 10 miles from Anchor Point, 20 miles from Homer, and 2 miles from the Russian village (Nikolaevsk) where I get my mail. Still some property available around here. Lots of wildlife.

I get less than $1000 through SSI, but am able to buy building materials, provisions, fuel for my generator, etc., and still put some money into savings.

It's a good life, and no way in hell could I do it anywhere else, especially Outside.

Biker, So----What are u looking for in life besides your comments, like the right woman? and commenting on my to be naked! LOL something like that your words to be able to pee outside, RIGHT ON! Old Town not much of it, a house or apt? By some of your pics looks like you have a garage for the "girl" and I can not think of a apt that has one in Old Town..hehehe but may be. Well AK is great! All I know is I am tired of working for Corporate crap, want to be home, cooking, cleaning, gardening, my art, catering and all endeavors that do make moneys... Oh well for now. I am kind of new to DH but have lived most of my 52 years in Alaska. One has to use all the seasons as they come by although as I grow older its not as hard to want to sit by the wood heater. I have oil too of course. I don't think for me anyway that our winters are all that dark, sure it seems worse if we have no snow but I have seen fox at midnight on my driveway with just the moon light reflecting off the snow. I have driven snowmachines in the middle of the night with no lights although must say they were broken but one needs to get home too. I have my own space and just this morning walking out to the wood pile naked( the pile is close) I am glad for where I live. The more people who don't come north the better as I feel we have it pretty easy. I hear talk of all the bad weather the lower 48 has and the most I worry about is what I should do most days. Life is fun and I am in remission of cancer too
