I was working late last night, as the KJ at a karaoke bar, when three questions continually ran through my mind. This was one...
Some time ago I vegetated on the couch and watched some South Park as I am oft prone to do. The episode was titled All About Mormans. It is in the seventh season, if anyone is interested. So as I'm seeing this for the first time ever, I realized that this was potraying every dispute about this religion I've ever had in detailed accuracy. I went out to rent it, as this particular one had made me laugh my arse off, and I also picked up the one on Scientology that I'd noticed. Everyone I knew had apparently seen these two except me. This too made my every thought on the subject into an animated joke, which I related to well. But I realize my beliefs do not make theirs somehow less significant, so... If anyone has seen these episodes, do you think that both religions were potrayed correctly? If so, why? If not, why? Now I know that this cartoon is not ideal for Christians... in fact, for many people without religious affiliations. At the same time, I'd love to hear the Christian perspective too. So if you feel you can deal with the profanities involved, please give it a shot and tell me what you think. Most of all, I'd really love to hear what both Mormons and Scientologists have to say about these episodes, as they are involoved. I know that these specific South Parks are not favorable to your beliefs, but your perspective is one I'd value the most. Not that this is a major problem, but if I am fortunate enough to have anyone from these respective groups decide to comment, please don't use this thread to berate them.

Hmmmm, religious study using cartoons...
Seems as valid as any other way..
However, I prefer a more interactive environment, so use religious coloring books.

Haven't seen those episodes but will watch tonight.
South Park is brilliant in most episodes. They have a way of putting it all together at the end. Pretty funny getting there too.
You can watch every episode including the movie for free at www.southparkzone.com
I got hooked when i saw the episode where Hillary Clinton had a snuke up her snizz in a 24 spoof. Funny stuff.

not sure about the scientologists, don't think I saw that episode but the Mormon thing is almost exactly the way it was. They didn't embellish it a bit.
A long time ago they were offering free Mormon bibles on TV, so I called the number and ordered one. I was curious as to what it said and it is pretty much the South Park Version.
The whole thing goes on with "thees" and "thy's" so sound all bible like but the main point was these gold shields that they supposedly found somewhere but wouldn't tell you want they said.
After reading threw it I pretty much came to the conclusion that it was all made up bullshit but that is nothing new for religions.
What bothered me is all those Mormons that go to church and actually believe in their religion and are just too dam plain stupid to realize that their religion is the biggest joke on the planet, big enough of a joke for South Park to do an entire show on it and not embellish it a bit.
As for Scientology, I did see a rather disturbing internet documentary on L Ron Hubbard and they guy was a certified f*cking wacko. Apparently a devotee of Alistair Crowley and threw it decided that they only was he was gonna get rich is to create his own religion.
So he got his own son high on some drugs and transcribed his hallucinations as the foundation for his religion.
I guess they believe that their are some sort of invisible aliens living on the planet that crashed here a long time ago. Put here as a prison and that all non scientologist are possessed by these evil aliens.
but I think looking at Hubbard is worth the while, if only to see how outrageous he was, so you can see how religions all get started.
By drunken lecherous chain smoking science fiction writers looking to make it big as the newest trendy messiah for the ridiculously gullible.

The reason that the church of scientology has prospered so well is because it uses the Law of attraction as it's foundation.
It's followers are wealthy because it works for them and it works for them because they want good things.
It is actually closer to Buddhism in a way, because it is saying if your spirit is kept good, and you make goodness your guiding principle, you will get what you want.
the Bible says the same thing.
Jehovas Witnesses, say, If you do these things, you will go to hell, and they try to scare them into good behavior, that is why it doesn't work. they sin in their hearts, even if they don't in their lives and when they DO sin, they are taught to abandon that person, they literally turn their back on that person in church??
so Un chiristian, and they will be judged harshly, GOoDs spirit is turning it's back on them because they reject it.

I do not watch Southpark but the thread caught my attention. Isnt it wrong for anyone to bash anothers religion. for one religion to bash another. for a persons personal beliefs to be berated by anyone or anything in any shape or form. If you have a question about a persons belief go to the source and make your own conclusions. by the way I am MORMON or LDS and we are christians as much as any of the other christian professing religions.

If the bashing is done in a jestful spirit it should not be wrong. However, if another person is unaware of the onset of the jesting and walks in on the middle...etc...then it may be received in the improper manner. If explained without passing along a negative, defensive attitude then that may settle any bruised feelings.
In regards to this threads topic and your reference of one religion bashing another's...etc.
...Southpark is a comedy adult cartoon series and not a religion. One must expect the unexpected while viewing it
As far as your religious denomination and profession of faith? Your sensitivity displays itself as a no nonsense personality at the time of your posting. May you loosen up on yourself and enjoy all things in life with a gladdened heart

Strings,
Iam HIV positive that no one in this thread meant to belittle another faith, arent you?
lmao.
that damned cartman, did you see him get Aids and then he squirted some of HIS bllod into kyles mouth in the middle of the night.
I think that they make fun of all of them across the board.
and skunk, I guess I wasn't really clear.
I think you are totally right that the scientology is a racket.
but I an asking if you think that the success of the members of the church of scientology is due to there being a law of attraction bent to it.
the reason I question this, is because if you listen to what John Travolta says, as I am prone to do, he talks about scientology in a way that sounds like the law of attraction. and if you watch him and oprah together, they share the same beliefs, but different structures.
and Lisa Marie is a scientologist, so is Tom Cruise, there are alot of successful big name scientologists. I think maybe they just put another story around the law of attraction and because of that it works enough to keep them going?
