if a real meaniful "friendship" graduated outside one of these chat rooms... Hasn't happened yet. But distance is not a deterrent for me.

Yes...absolutely! Distance is only a minor hurdle if you really want to find what you are looking for. Life cannot always hand us what we desire at our feet. Sometimes we have to take risks and make an effort to go after what it is we want! Nothing good in life comes easy. You never know what opportunity you are passing up by not being flexible and willing to sacrifice.
