Zarei stepped down from his post following the raid, the report said. According to another popular Iranian website, Gooya, the order to raid the brothel was given directly by Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, chief of the judicial authorities.
Over the past year Zarei was in charge of enforcing the Islamic dress code on Iranian women with the purpose of "moralizing of the city."
It is alleged that in the past six months, hundreds of young people have been arrested in Iran for not respecting the Islamic code of behavior.
Rumors of the brothel incident had been spreading in Iran for the past two weeks, and last week Zarei was replaced after four years as chief of police in Tehran.
The arrest was not reported by any of Iran's official news agencies. Farda News, which broke the story, is a website said to be close to the mayor of Tehran and former chief of the police forces, Mohammed Bagher Qalibaf and is considered reliable.

Pink, remember, we're Americans and we don't learn from history. Which is why we're mired in Iraq right now. The politicians micromanaged the initial conduct of the war and got us all bogged down. Hmmm, we had recovered from Vietnam and had something called the Powell doctrine, it was being taught at all the service professional development schools, then we got stuck with this idiot currently in office and his number one henchman, Don Rumsfeld who tried to do a war on the cheap and look at where we're at again. If we don't learn from history, we're doomed to repeat it, and obviously a Vietnam draft dodger as CinC doesn't help matters any. I get a kick out of people who call Bush a great military leader, they're always civilians, not the military themselves. If he would have given us the mission, pulled the reins in on Rumsfeld and allowed the professionals to do the job, we wouldn't be in this mess we're in now. Talking theoretically about Iran. If we were to go in with overwhelming force, a total mobilization and not screw around, we wouldn't have to go nuclear. The damage that could be done by about 40 B1Bs, 12 B-2s, 40 B-52s, and about 70 or 90 F-15Es would be devastating. Total unrestricted warfare with no interference from the politicians or uniforms in the Pentagon, it would be over in a matter of weeks. Now, the Air Force alone can't do the job. It's got to be a joint attack with Naval air, working in conjunction with the Air Force to take out everything that moves. Then the Army and Marine Corps goes in, with overwhelming force, and we just do the job. If we'd have done that in Iraq as Tommy Franks originally asked for, we'd have been out of there a few years ago. Instead we did it on the cheap and are now paying the true costs for this fiasco.

You are right. If that draft dodger would have done something about all the terrorist attacks during his 2 terms, perhaps 9-11 would have been prevented…and these wars averted.

Marc, I agree we should (and still could) go in there, get the job done once and for all or get the hell out of there, instead of turning this situation into another Vietnam.
The holocaust on 6 million Jews is undeniable – it is too enormous. The victims of the violent spread of Islam add up to approximately 270 million non-believers who died over the last 1400 years for the glory of political Islam.
This historical carnage should be impossible to bury under Islamic pathos, which tries to cloud all important issues.
I was shocked to read we were not allowed to attack 120 Taliban leaders because the rules of engagement stated that we couldn't attack the enemy in a cemetery.
Our generation looks at LBJ and McNamara with disgust because they seemed to do everything they could to keep our troops from winning the war in Vietnam; micromanaging from the bowels of the Pentagon with self-defeating rules of engagement. Bush and his cronies are no different.
Let's fight a real war or get out.
