I practice the religion of me. I believe in myself and the power within me. I'm not saying I can turn water into wine or anything like that. I believe in all of the concepts of the bible of christianity. The main one being Do Unto Others but I don't believe it is anyones right to tell someone else that what they believe is wrong. I, personally, don't believe in ANY outside HIGHER power. I am my higher power. You are you're higher power. How about instead of Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto You we start practicing Don't Do Unto Anyone Except Yourself. Anything that happens in my life either to me or by me or about me is noones doing but my own. I am me. I love me. I make me who I am. If anyone understands what I'm trying to say please post because I think sometimes I completly confuse everyone I try to explain this to. lol

I was raised Catholic but my family practiced and believed in Yoruba(Santeria).
Santeria orginated in Cuba as a combination of the Western African Yoruba Religion and Iberian Catholicism 2 . "It is one of the many syncretic religions created by Africans brought to the Caribbean islands as slaves." 56 . It was developed out of necessity for the African slaves in order to continue practicing their native religion in the New World. As in all countries where the African slaves were taken, Cuban slave masters discouraged and sometimes prohibited the practice of their native religions 40 .
The slaves in Cuba were forced to follow the practices of the Catholic Church, which went against the beliefs of their native religions. Noticing the parallels between their native religion and Catholicism, and in order to please their slave-masters and fulfill their own religious needs, they created a secret religion. Santeria uses Catholic saints and personages as fronts for their own god and Orishas (spiritual emissaries). Thus, when a slave prayed to an Orisha, it looked as if they were praying to a saint. 3
After some slaves had been freed in Cuba, "the genre de color (free people of color) created Santeria on the basis of old Yoruba beliefs and practices. African religious traditions were reinvented and fused with elements of the Spanish culture, an example of assimilation -- the fusion, both culturally and socially, of groups with distinctive identities. In the 1880's the syncretism was further embellished by the addition of Kardecian Spiritist traditions brought from France." 57 . These had an influence on Santeria by incorporating the aspect of spirit enlightenment in its practices. This process of seeking light has been incorporated in worshiping the Orisha 41 . Santeria spread quickly in the New World among the slaves who originated from Western Africa. When slave trade was abolished, the practice of Santeria carried on.
The religion was practiced in secret, because people frowned on the bizarre traditions of the African natives. Although today the necessity for keeping the religion secret has mostly vanished, it is practiced today out of a strong sense of tradition.

I was a bible thumping christian all my life until I asked to many questions about 20 years ago. Now I am what I call spiritual. I believe in a Creator but do not believe the bible is the only place that creator talks to us.
All religions have something of benefit to offer but no single one has all the answers.

im a catholic cause i was christened catholic, went to catholic school, pray, go to mass with my mom. believe in god, in jesus and mary, celebrate the holidays, don't eat meat on friday, etc.
im buddhist/taoist cause i go to the temple with my dad, burn incense, pray, believe in kuan yin, don't eat meat on the 1st and 15th, celebrate the holidays.
when i was old enough to think there might be a contradiction i asked the priest if i should stop being catholic since i also believed in kuan yin.
he said no.
two weeks ago i went to a special mass upstate new york for a native american, kateri tekakwitha. there were a lot of mohawks and other natives there. they smudged us with tobacco as part of the ceremony and sang some traditional songs.
this is a new world, some people r not being trapped in religious outlooks of the past.
How can you be a Catholic AND a Buddhist/Taoist?
Isn't that like being a fat, thin persson or liking Kosher ham?

Pray to whatever you want
You can prey to Charlie Brown or the great computer in the sky for all i care , as i have stated before
In the end its how you treat people around you that will define your religious stance
Everyone has a right to aline themselves with whatever religion they want so long they are not telling others if they don't convert they will burn in hell
Just my 2 cents.

Jesus said the whole law was included in this one rule "Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you". As far as believing goes, I do believe in the supreme being, just not in the apostals or Paul.

im what you would call an ecclectic pagan i work with various gods/goddesses which ever suits the need of the spell i'm working. i do have an alter with various ritual tools on it and various devination tools the list is long but heres a few. ( athame"ritual knife" incense, candles, chalice, sword, staff, mortar and pestal"for herb grinding" various oils, an amithyst chrystal ball for devination and tarot cards.) the people in my circle celebrate all the sabbats/esbatts. we tend to do rituals outside under the open sky. so there lol i hope i may have answered a few of your questions and thanks for postin on my paganism thread. it makes me happy to see im not the only one on here with an interest in the old time religion.

Baptised a Methodist and raised a non-practising, non-denominational Chris tian. Married a Jewish man and have been practicing conservative/reformed Judiasm for 19+ years. Have converted and raised all three of my children in the Jewish faith, by agreement before marriage, heck I wanted to, felt they should be raised in a religion that at least one of us was actually practicing. I never converted though.
I don't know what I am if you ask me for an affiliation to any particular religion. I love reading the tennets and beliefs of other religions and find more often that there are more similarities than differences in core beliefs. The problem always comes down to interpretation by us humans. I do believe that "Do Unto Others.........." is the most important tenet - along with honesty.
As a practicing Jew, we worship in Temple, we celebrate the major holidays with their traditional paraphanial and traditional foods and drinks. We do not keep a kosher home but will adhere to most of the dietary restrictions during the holidays - especially when celebrating or attending holidays at extended family members homes who do keep kosher laws.
While I don't consider myself an expert in Judiasm I have learned quite a bit over the years. I'll answer any questions as best I can.
