Old employer misbehavin
by timothycg at 4/9/2013 7:24:11 PM

My last employer had to shut his business down because warranty work and COD customers dropped off suddenly. It was one of those little Ma and Pa TV shops that I was the only employee for 6 years.

Well he owes me a lot of money currently from work and hes on disability getting SSI, does dialysis 3 times a week and still some what of a friend.

Do I take him to court and try to recover my losses, and just because you sue some one in court still doesn't mean your going to get paid.

Even if you win...you will more than likely not get the money. I would say cut the loss if you possible can. If you win, you might be able to get the money from his SSI payments that is a long shot too. JMHO

I once knew a man that owned a shoe repair store. With the money he made there he paid his mortgage on the house, provided food for himself, his wife and 9 children, plus any customers at the holiday time, he knew didn't have a family. They weren't rich, and he was never a sick a day in his life, he died in his shoe repair store. At the wake those that owed him money went to his wife, and offered the money back to him. His wife replied, "My husband would never have took the money, so please just forget it." To some a shoe repair owner's money is just nickels and dimes, but think about all he had to shelter and feed. The amount of money this man may owe you may be a lot, but look at what he is going through now. I would think about this carefully before going to court. It may cost you more money than he owes you. It's jmo but that's all you asked for, was an opinion.

You can't attach it to the SSI payment for auto deduct. I would write it off, chances of being paid are slim to none. What my gut says.

How about buying the shop out and go into business yourself? JMO.

Thanks for the input, I will take all in consideration.

@teddy it failed for him due to lack of customer support, I would be in the same boat.

Sorry to hear this, you'll be rewarded somehow in life for this good deed, don't feel as if it's worth it!! Move forward, keep being a friend to him as well!!

Tim - feel for you as had friend do that over large piece of furniture I made. I just waited and she had some tough times in her life but she eventually paid me off. Having worked in healthcare if your into praying sounds like he could use that first - good luck
