Things to keep in mind about your pictures

Check your picture file size.

Most digital cameras produce very large picture files. The same goes with scanners. Most dating sites don't accept files that are overly large as it uses up a lot of server resources. You need to make sure your file is less than around 200k. If you find that your picture file is larger than this, don't worry. You can resize it yourself using one of the programs that came with your computer. If you are using Windows, there is a program called Paint that let's you manipulate images. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Paint. From there you can edit your picture file. This program is not entirely user friendly however. Preferably you would use an imaging program that came with your computer, provided by your computer manufacturer. Most computers sold today come with something to edit pictures, make movies, etc. The goal here is to make your file size smaller, and the way to do that is to shrink the actual image, either by shrinking the whole thing, or by cutting a section out that you want to use and tossing the rest. Make sure you have a good clear head shot.

Make sure it is the right file type.

Picture files come in all types, but most personals sites only accept certain ones, like .jpg, .gif, .bmp, or .tif. We suggesting creating a .jpg as this file type creates a high quality picture at a small file size.

Make sure it is a clear picture.

You don't typically want to submit fuzzy images. They aren't usually flattering to you.

Make sure you're in the picture.

If this is your main picture, you must be in it. But even for extra pictures, you should avoid submitting pictures of your car, or things like that, unless you are in it. Remember, you are selling yourself. You have limited space to accomplish this, don't waste it with pictures of your pet gold fish

Add a description.

A few sites, notably this one, allow you to add a description for each picture you submit. A picture is worth a thousand words, but some pictures could use 50 more words to help explain the story behind it. Even if it's just a regular picture with no real story, tell us about it anyway. Attaching your writing with your picture enhances your profile considerably as it makes you seem more personable, more real. It is a subtle, yet powerful effect that cannot be ignored.

Smile!

You always look more attractive when you have a big smile on your face, as long as you have teeth. And if not, well, good luck to you.

Add more than one!

Just having one picture isn't really enough. It's hard to tell what someone really looks like from just a single picture. Make sure you post at LEAST 2 pictures, preferably 3 or more. It is important for people to be able to see you in different lighting and from different angles. If someone thinks you look cute but there is only one picture to go by, they might be thinking "hmm, I wonder if they just look good in this picture..". If they have a few pictures to go by they will have much more confidence and will be more likely to send you a message.
