Ruth Westheimer was born Karola Ruth Siegel on June 4, 1928 in Frankford, Germany. Her parents Julius and Irma Siegel were Orthodox Jews. In January of 1939, her father was taken by Nazis from their home and she was sent to Switzerland so she would be safe. She grew up in a Swiss orphanage and sent letters back and forth to her parents. In 1941, the letters stopped coming. Four years later, Westheimer discovered that her parents had become victims of the Holocaust. She immigrated to the British Mandate of Palestine, where she lost her virginity at age 17. Soon after, she joined a Jewish military organization known as the Haganah, where she was trained as a sharpshooter and scout. She served the organization during the Isreali War of Independence in 1948 and was severely wounded in action by an exploding shell. She survived and moved to France in 1950. In 1956, she moved to the United States, where she began attending school. She earned a Master’s in sociology and an Ed.D and completed post-doctorate work in human sexuality. In 1980, Betty Elam, a manager for the WYNY-FM radio station, was so taken with Westheimer that she gave her a 15-minute show on Sunday nights. Westheimer decided to discuss topics that related to sex, and Westheimer began answering sexually-related questions sent in by mail. The show was called Sexually Speaking and Westheimer used the name “Dr. Ruth.” After only two months, people were so taken with the show that it was expanded to an hour and then went live with Westheimer taking phone calls on air. Her catchphrase was “Get some!” Within two years, Westheimer was appearing on late night television shows and her radio show was one of the best-rated in the country.
In 1982, she taped a TV show called Sexually Speaking; both the TV and radio shows have been nationally syndicated. She has also written many books, the most famous among them being Sex for Dummies and Dr. Ruth's Top Ten Secrets for Great Sex: How to Enjoy it, Share it, and Love it Each and Every Time .
Dr. Ruth advises couples to maintain healthy sex lives no matter what their circumstances are – even if they have children and never seem to have time or if they’re an older couple who seem to have lost the “spark.” She believes that everyone needs a good sexual appetite to be truly healthy and that couples need a healthy sex life to maintain a strong marriage. Her books include sections on topics like enhanced foreplay, practicing safe sex, and finding love through personals. Dr. Ruth gives advice on how to improve communication inside and outside the bedroom and discusses the importance of romance in a relationship. She also discusses how to have better sex. She goes into great detail about where men and women like to be touched and offers tips on how to improve sex between a couple. She also has tips for women in general such as how to find proper bras, how to masturbate properly, and tips on how to satisfy a man’s sexual desires.
Indeed, Dr. Ruth has been an inspiration and guiding light for many people. Presented by DateHookup.dating Signup for free online dating.
