Burt Bacharach was born in Missouri and from an early age focused on music. He studied music at the Music Academy of the West, McGill University and the Mannes School of Music. He spent time in the Army, but went right back to music after getting out. He served as a piano player for Vic Damone and other famous singers of the time. He even worked as the personal bandleader for actress Marlene Dietrich.

Bacharach began working with Hal David in 1957 and the two men created some well known songs such as “The Story of My Life” and “Magic Moments”, which was performed by Perry Como. The two eventually wrote over 100 songs together and became known for romantic love songs. This connection to love songs grew when they worked with Dionne Warwick who recorded some of their more popular love songs. The singer didn’t work exclusively with the duo, but did record a number of their songs that charted high in the United States.

The love songs of Bacharach were the most popular he wrote and composed. “The Look of Love” sung by Dusty Springfield was highly popular as was her cover of “Wishin’ and Hopin’”. The Carpenters recorded his “Close to You”, Aretha Franklin recorded “Walk on By” and Jackie DeShannon did “What the World Needs Now is Love”. He was also known for the large number of songs recorded by jazz artists working during the 1950s and 1960s.

Bacharach continues creating songs perfect for dating well into the present day. He appeared in three movies during the 1990s and poked fun at himself in the Austin Powers franchise. He released over thirty albums in his career, including the soundtracks to movies like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Lost Horizon. Today he continues working on new music and occasionally offers a live show for his fans.
