On February 7th, 1867, Laura Elizabeth Ingalls was born to parents Charles and Caroline in the city of Pepin, Wisconsin. Laura's childhood with her parents and her sisters Mary, Carrie, and Grace was full of happiness and challenges as the family tried to establish a livelihood on the prairie. As a teenager, Laura followed her aspirations to become a teacher and at the age of eighteen married a man named Almanzo Wilder. They had a daughter named Rose. Also, once every three years, the Association for Library Service to Children gives the Laura Ingalls Wilder award to a children's author whose work has endured through the years.
