In 1953 singer Cyndi Lauper was born in Brooklyn, New York to parents Fred and Catrine Lauper. When Cyndi was five years old her parents divorced and she moved to Ozone Park with her mother, sister, and brother. Cyndi showed an interest in music early on and began playing guitar even before she reached her teenage years. In her early twenties, she started singing for cover bands in venues around New York. Then in 1977 she suffered vocal cord damage and was unable to sing for a year. Cyndi underwent therapy on her vocal cords and, despite the odds, regained her unique singing voice. She went on to form a band called Blue Angel and together they released an album in 1980. Cyndi Lauper's professional singing career had begun and she was on a path to worldwide fame.

In 1983 Cyndi Lauper's singing talents were shared with the public at large with the release of She's So Unusual, her first solo album of work. She's So Unusual claims the honor of featuring four songs that became top five singles. That list includes, "All Through the Night," "Time After Time," "She Bop," and the familiar, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." Cyndi Lauper's singing talents gained further attention via her popular music videos shown on MTV. The memorable video for, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" with its fun cast of characters certainly won singer Cyndi Lauper a loyal following of teenage girls. She earned a great deal of recognition for her music including a Grammy and two American Music awards.

Cyndi Lauper continued to enjoy success with her concerts during the mid to late1980s. She even extended her singing talents to the movies. The 1985 movie The Goonies features a song written and sung by Cyndi entitled, "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough." The song quickly became a popular favorite with fans. In 1986, Cyndi Lauper's song, "True Colors" received a Grammy nod. A Night to Remember, Cyndi's third album, came out in 1989. The memorable tune, "I Drove All Night," is an offering from that particular album.

In 1988 Cyndi Lauper decided to try her talents at acting and appeared in her first movie called Vibes. She played the role of a psychic in that film. An opportunity to work on another film Off and Running came about in 1990. She met and began dating her future husband, David Thorton, on the set of that film. She later appeared alongside actor Michael J. Fox in the movie Life with Mikey in 1993. Cyndi Lauper moved on to impress the television audience in the situation comedy Mad About You, in the mid 1990s. In fact, she was nominated for an Emmy award for her work as the character Marianne on Mad About You in 1994.

Cyndi Lauper is still expressing her creativity through her acting and singing today. Recently, she appeared on the popular television programs Gossip Girl and 30 Rock. For four decades Cyndi Lauper has held a special place in the hearts of fans who appreciate her for both her acting and singing talents.
