The STD Information Page

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are diseases that can be contracted through sexual acts, including vaginal, oral, or anal intercourse. Millions of people have been diagnosed with some form of STD. As of today, there are twenty five known diseases that vary according to symptoms. Most STDs are transmitted when people have sex with partners who carry the diseases. People will know that they have been infected when symptoms appear, and even if they don’t show the symptoms, people who are infected can still transmit STDs. Here are some information regarding the more common STDs.

AIDS

AIDS or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome can be defined as the more advanced stage of the human immunodeficiency virus. It damages the body’s immune system. You can acquire AIDS if you have unprotected sex with a person who is infected with it but there have also been cases where people can contract the disease in other ways such as blood transfusion or even breastfeeding. The signs of AIDS infection include swollen glands and symptoms relating to flu. Severe symptoms may not manifest after a few months or even years after the infection. A blood test can determine if you have HIV or AIDS. Unfortunately, there is no cure for it though there are medicines that can inhibit the HIV viral burden.
