I live in Middle Village Queens and I feel it necessary to apologize for the TOTAL LACK of Patriotism and the dishonor to All VETERANS exhibited on Memmorial Day !!!!

On any other Holiday or so called Holiday (Halloween ,St. Patricks Day ,Valentines Day ,Easter,Christmas, New Years Day) the yards here sport HUNDREDS some must cost over a thousand to display as there are electric everythings lights,audioetc...

Memmorial Day NOTHING !!!! 1 Flag was flown to Honor our Veterans and thier Sacrifices on my block!!!! We have a few others that are out 24/7 and look like hell. Yes you got it MY HOUSE !!!

The town held no events ,not 1 business displayed anything , no one in Local Government Displayed anything at thier offices.

I am saddened and sick at heart to see this where I live. Disgusted Totally Disgusted !!!!

Thus I apologize to YOU ALL and will copy and send this post to above mentioned Public Servants !!!!!

Anyone else live in an UNGRATEFUL & UNPATRIOTIC Hell Hole like this ?????

Yours was not the only town/city that did not give a decent show to the military...Perhaps it is time to write our town and city officials, I don't know. All the service men and women have famaliy, where are they as well. That comment is not meant to be offensive, merely to pose the question, do they feel the same as us vets? If they do what would they like to see happen??

BikerAngel,

The guys are right, and as I raised my Flag each day this weekend, then lowered it to Half Mast, there wasn't another one on the entire street!

Just an excess of cars, attending parties and barbeques up and down the block.

Fortunately, there are a lot of Vets here in South Florida, and we have a 2/3 size replica of the Mt. Suribachi Iwo Jima Flag Raising monument. Each Memorial Day, we have a large group of Vets and family supporters who hold a ceremony from 8AM (Flag Raising) to about noon, then there is a few picnics and barbeques attended AFTER it is over.

People just don't really care anymore, and they think that by sticking a "Made in China" yellow ribbon and an American Flag sticker on their cars, that they are supporting the troops.........

I fly 2 flags every day, all year. The American Flag and I rotate between the Jolly Roger and a Roll Tide flag on the other pole. For this past weekend I flew one American Flag where I always do, and another (5'X3') flying from my mail box. Living in a southern military town…I was very proud with my communities recognition. There were more houses with flags, than without. There were a couple of parades with the local veterans groups, ceremonies at local cemeteries, and gatherings at the 4 or 5 local war/veterans memorials. The local country station and dozens of businesses provided a "burger burn" in the park, free to all vets and active duty. The local stations played all the appropriate music all weekend. And there was a great sense of pride in the air. It was good.
The thing that gets me is that a lot of people took their flags down. I just don’t get it. I would be willing to bet that the folks in my area that kept their flags flying, wore a uniform at some point.

I went to Boalsburg, PA the birthplace of Memorial Day and it was spectacular! I met many older and disabled Veteran's and the village is completely covered with flags and patriotic symbolism and friendliness. I'll share my pics when I have them uploaded.

Sorry your town wasn't supportive. I constantly have to remind my family and friends what the true mean of the day/weekend is all about. Do you know that my Parents didn't even call me over the weekend to say thank you or even acknowledge the day and my service. That saddens me at times. All three of my little Brothers remembered though. That was sweet.

I live in the country. The nearest town is 6 miles away. However, as I drove down the gravel road that I live on, NOT ONE FARM was without an American flag flying proudly!
