I know its a long shot, but anyone in the five boroughs like to hike? Most of the natives I've met don't know the city anywhere near as well as I do, which is a shame. I have traveled much of the country, and there is nowhere, absolutely nowhwere, where you can see more variety on a short or long hike than here in New York. I take a long hike once a week (thirty to sixty miles, depending on season) and have traveled as far north as the Tappan-Zee, as far south as Port Ivory and as far east as Great Neck. But it's a shame I can't find anyone in good enough shape, (or who cares enough) to go walking with me. So what do you say, New York, who's with me?

There is a path leading north out of Van Cortlant Park in the Bronx that becomes a well-maintained bike bath known as the South County Bike Trail. You can walk up this all the way to Tarrytown, and if you simply turn left and walk down the road the trail ends on, you will be taken directly to the Tappan Zee, eventually. Or, if that's too complicated (and it can be, at times) you can simply follow Broadway all the way up along the river and you will also get to Tappan Zee. (you can eventually get all the way to Poughkipsee (sp) using this road, and then you can simply take the Metro North river line to get back, saving you a return trip. Hope this helped.

I am a hiker from north of Syracuse, would luv to continue hiking campng in the Catskill region as I used to 10 yrs. ago. but with gas prices as they are,not sure when I'll get down that way again.
Will always luv hiking/camping though especially on a mountain lake
