Quilters and sewers, where are you? Is there anything new going on out there? Have been away from quilting for almost a year and feel totally behind.

Do you usually make scrappy quilts with your blocks? I miss quilting so much! I had been living in a very small apartment for almost a year now and just didn't really have any room to sew. Just bought a house and am working on my sewing room now. Can't wait to get it finished so I can get started on my next project.

Hi Sloopyfirtz - I quilt when I hsve time, but lately I just don't have the time. I'm like you - I live in a small place & just can't seem to get motivated, due to having to put it up when I'm through working n it for the day. Hopefully one of these days I'll be able to just leave it out & work n it as I pass by !!!! My problem is I see so many uilt tops that I like & can't do then all !!! I also love to cross stitch, so if you know of a place I can go for it I'd appreciate it very much.

I can understand wanting to do every pattern you can find. I have about a dozen quilt tops and I have to make myself finish the quilt or I can't start a new one. I have seen a couple of patterns for cross-stitching on blocks, then make a quilt out of them. A good way to work on a quilt one block at a time and have room for it until you are ready to put it together.

Hi everyone, I am new on here , sloopy I see you and I are both from Kansas.
I haven't done much quilting but love it. Do you ladies do hand quilting, one block at at time or put them in a large quilt frame or do you machine quilt? I love watching Elinor Burns on PBS. Who ever does her color schemes does a wonderful job. Don't like her voice but love to see her work.
I live alone on 4 acres so am usually trying to keep the weeds and the brush cut back so it won't look like the Aadams family lives here! lol
Nice to meet all of you. Will stop around again some time.

Hi Addy, your life sounds great. Actually I LOVE Eleanor Burns. She didn't start making quilts until her husband left her when she had young kids. She lived by a fabric factory and used to go dumpster diving with her kids to get fabric that was thrown away. She made quilts to make extra money and then started her own patterns. Now she is making tons of money doing what she loves. I quilt on my machine. Have quilted very small quilts by hand, but always seem to want to hurry and finish the one I'm working on to start a new one.
BTW, how do you keep up with all the weeds? I only have 1/3 of an acre and I can't catch up on the weeds and grass EVER!

I am a quilter. One of my buddies is a single lady that when she lived in a one bedroom apartment use her living room as a sewing room. Only seating she had was a love seat. She said it was her living room and quilting was her definition of living.
Sew on.

Hi everyone! I love to quilt and sew too. I've been doing embroidered quilts for many years and I find it helps to relax me and relieve tension. I pick pictures of any/everything and hand draw them onto fabric, then I hand embroider, and quilt. I'm currently working on a bright yellow quilt with frogs, dragonflies, butterflies & ladybugs. My boss loves it so much she wants me to enter it in our county fair. Hope I'll be done by the end of August!!

I'm by no means a "quilter" but I've made a couple of very very very simple quilts and would love some tips as to how to make better ones. I want to make a baby quilt for my friend who's expecting. Any tips?

You can do a very easy baby quilt by buying panel fabric. It is usually about a half a yard of fabric with a large picture on it, or a couple of smaller ones you can cut up and use for blocks. That way you are just putting together square blocks and then a border, or a large panel and a border. There are a lot of cute panels out there just for babies, and it goes together so quickly.
