When I was growing up.. we were somewhere between a farm and a ranch, and as kids we spent much time playing in the hay loft.

when I was around 10 years old, there was a boy that I went to school with ( one room school ! ) he was one grade ahead of me, anyway I really liked him, and he really liked me, we would take off on our bikes and ride all over together for many hours, most of the time we would take the dirt road back to our land and just amuse ourselves by the creek, in the woods, in trees, what ever...
I remember a few times we would climb up into the hay loft and sit there for hours holding hands and talking, and looking at each other. I thought he was the cutiest thing in the whole wide world.
and I remember I wanted to kiss him more than anything in the world...but was scared to death to do it, and I guess he must have been too. because we never did.

and then the next year he left our school and went to the junior high school in another town.... and I was toast.
ahhh such is love!!

stories anyone........?

Mine are of hay slings speread on the hayrack floor then hay, then another sling on top of that hay then more hay, and so on till full. Then crank down the hayloft big door and pull the hayrack under it. Then bring down the hay lift and hook to the hayslings the hook a tractor or horses to the big rope on the other side of the barn [in our case] with two peaple to holler start & stop to the puller though the barn we would hoist the hay up and in the door and trip it were we wanted the hay it fall. Then repeat many times to fill the barn with hay. Allso shot many a pigon in haylofts with BB guns. No romance ever, darn it!!

the only hayloft story I can tell is where we had a rope swing and got in heaps of trouble we jumped from the loft ladder and liked to swing. Boy was da dmad and said it was too dangerous.then he took it away, loft was good for other things.

Saw "THE HAYLOFT"... and cracked up. Brought back one of my fondist memories of my childhood which of course I hadn't remembered in a long long time.

While playing "hide and go seek" with my two older brothers. We were 6,9 & 10 years old. The garage was attached to the house and was also used for a barn. Hay loft to the right and left sides of where the farm truck was parked, but no truck in there when we decided to play our game. At the back and to the right was an open area about 18-20" wide on the floor and a good 15' long where the grain and hay was dumped to the cows underneath on the ground floor. Yup---you guessed it. My oldest brother Duffy completly forgot about it. I'm doing the count down and in the middle I hear this really loud scream.........
my other brother Fred and I run toward the screaming and sure enough we look down this long hole in the floor and there is Duffy sitting in the hay manger (which was full of hay thank goodness). He had fallen about 10-12' and right in front of a huge old bossy cow with I'm sure what Duffy thought was the LONGEST horns in the whole wide world. Needless to say my Uncle Archie heard all the screams and comes a running also. Duffy was rescued from out of the old bossy's way with no harm done other than to his pride and backside somewhat. Of course being the kids we were, knowing he was once again safe and sound...........we cracked up with laughter and still laugh about this at family get together's every now and than. Thanks so much for a great topic!!!

Hmmmm the haybarn....LOL
Got in trouble if we played in there as a kid
Spent the night in one and made "hay twist" to keep warm as a teen. We lied about exactly where we spent the night
And...the most memorable....the hay barn was where I lost my virginity!!

Altho I am a country girl, we had no loft in our hay barn, so the only time I got to go in the barn was to haul hay out and haul hay in. Now the Hay Field was another story.

Gotta quit thinkin about that

This isn't really a Hayloft story but..
I remember one day I jumped on my horse in the barn, and he decided he didn't want me there, so he bucked...
My hair flew UP into an empty light socket and both of us got the stuffin' "shocked" out of us.
I thought I was a goner.
Don't remember ever seening a horse move so fast... he wouldn't come near me for days!

true story
