I love quotes from older and wiser people. Especially Henry David Thoreau.
Give these some real hard thought.

"Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?"

"Ignorance and bungling with love are better than wisdom and skill without."

"It is an interesting question how far men would retain their relative rank if they were divested of their clothes."

I believe it time to have some new subjects on this old folks form.
Well what do you think.
I have many of these so if you are interested I could post more.

Here are a few more.

"Our life is frittered away by detail... simplify, simplify."

"Never look back unless you are planning to go that way."

"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."

"It is not enough to be busy. So are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?"

Here is one that I don't know the author.

"Through age and experience I've learned that Common Sense is not so common."

What do these mean to you? Each person has a different way of looking at them.

That "simplify" quote brought back memories. I wrote a paper on that once.

I suppose old Ben would have some quotes, even though I can only remember one right now.

Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.

Ben was quite a sociable soul, so what he meant by "early" might have been midnight!!

Thank you for the quotes. I keep a small book with blank pages in my purse and when I cme across a quote that "speaks" to me I jot it down. He is one I really like:

Good Morning Everyone:

Margaret...I really must ration the Chocolate Digestives or I'll get fat. My goody package was a complete surprise....the best kind.

Last night I spent about an hour with the British Airways site. They sent me a newsletter stating there was a flight to London for $174 including all fees and taxes and the roundtrip was only $325. Well I tried my best to find the flight and book it. It DOES NOT exist. I am going to call British Airways this morning and ask them where it is. A reputable company like this one should not advertise something that doesnot exist.

Lovely weather today for the 4th July celebrations.

I know you are probably getting tired of Thoreau, but here are a few more. I thing he had great wisdom about the world around him when he moved to Walden Pond to be alone and enjoy the solitude.

"Every people have gods to suit their circumstances"

"Distrust any enterprise that requires new clothes"

"Our houses are such unwieldy property that we are often imprisoned rather than housed by them"

"The greatest compliment that was ever paid me was when one asked me what I thought, and attended to my answer."

Here is a long one but I think it has some value.

A T T I T U D E

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company...a person...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change how other people will act. The only thing we can do is play on the one thing we have and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our Attitudes."

OK Here is some more I found in a folder of things to ponder.

The image of myself which I try to create in my own mind in order that I may love myself is very different from the image which I try to create in the minds of others in order that they may love me.
Dyer's Hand (1963)

Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can: all of them make me laugh.
Dyer's Hand (1963) "Notes on the Comic"

Helen Keller

Science may have found a cure for most evils; but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all--the apathy of human beings.

Take care all, and keep smiling. remember as an old car salesman once said " I have seen it go along like this and then it got worse" He was talking about the drop in new car sales, but it could apply to almost anything.

That is enough for today.

Jeanette, I had an aunt whom we always called Aunt Alice, who was my mother's oldest sister. Aunt Alice had been born in Rotterdam. I remember as a child one of my other older aunts calling Aunt Alice a name that sounded like Altje. It was explained to me that this was her Dutch name. Germany and The Netherlands are right next to each other, I believe, and their languages similar.

My apologies, Glenn, for going off-topic here. And right now I can't think of any saying. I keep thinking of one that goes something like, "Words fitly spoken are like apples of gold", but that must not be right!

I will try better later. Thank you, Jeanette. By the way, I also had an Aunt Jeanette.

A friend sent me this so I thought I would share it.

--Author Unknown

I believe that our background and circumstances may have influenced
who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I believe that no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt
you every once in a while, and you must forgive them for that.

I believe that just because someone doesn't love you the way you want
them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.

I believe that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want
to be.

I believe that you should always leave loved ones with loving words.
It may be the last time you see them.

I believe that you either control your attitude, or it controls you.

I believe that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I believe that sometimes, when I'm angry, I have the right to be
angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I believe that it isn't enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you
have to learn to forgive yourself.

I believe that no matter how bad your heart is broken, the world
doesn't stop for your grief.

I believe that life is more precious than money will ever be.
